    Hi people,
Were trying to piece togeather a PA at the moment. Idealy 500 watt tops x2 and 500 bins x2. We are collecting a mackie desk next week (got it on adverts.ie). We will probably be getting the tops first, and will be adding the bins at a later date. My question is when we add the bins, we will need another amp to power them, how to we connect the 2 amps togeather

this is the desk we are getting, and lets say we git two of these amp, how would we join the 2 amps?

or would we just be better off getting a 2k amp?

    cheers!

    Hello again :)

Firstly, skip that amp, in fact skip any amp until you know what your tops are going to be. Matching amp power to speaker power handling is vitally important and by buying the amp first you really limit your speaker options.

Secondly, to power Subs & Tops you usually need an external (active) crossover of some sort. Some Subs have a built-in (passive) crossover but these are known to reduce the efficiency and performance of the Speakers and also doesn't really give you any control over Subs level V Tops level.

Check out the QSC PLX2 (Powerlight) range of Amps, very reliable and sound great. They have on board processing that will let you power 2 Subs + 2 Tops off a single amplifier. At the flick of a switch, Ch1 becomes your Subs/Bins and Ch2 becomes your Tops and hey presto, a full rig powered off one 10kg amp.

The only drawback is that the PA will be running in Mono but in all honesty the advantages of Stereo are negligble in small bars so nobody will even notice.

I also think the Yamaha P series amps have similar processing and are a little cheaper IIRC.

    +1 on the QSC amps.

I use 2 PLX3602's. Have not missed a beat in almost a year.
