Skirmish events around the country

    Hi guys,

Just had another Idea, I was thinking of organising skirmish events in different areas which have different set ups and themes etc.

For Example if I was to secure a shipping yard while it is closed (obviously using all the relevant insurances and legal rights) which would have containers and various different covers similar to that of the "shipment" level on "Call of Duty 4" but bigger.
Also people who participate would have the opportunity to request different Scenario and will will arrange it for players.

The main Idea will be to create a different enviroment for the players and also to ad to the realism being that the areas will be genuine scenarios but make believe situations.

In order to arrange this, it may cost a small amount than a usual skirmish site but it will be a game not to be missed!

Does this sound like something that people would be interested in?

Please note: if you are interested in this please let me know as if you do not voice your opinion then we will not know what you would like!

    Thanks guys.

Sounds like an interesting concept, but the problem is getting access to the required land, there's a reason why such urban/built up/warehouse/shipyard/office block type sites are so rare, they cost a lot of money to rent/buy the land.

But, cost aside, would love to skirmish in different locations like that.

If it was possible to get an insurance company on-board with the idea of covering land for only a few days, then other land with minimum fuss, that would be great.

Have a standardised form to supply the landowner with etc. and you could use all sorts of places.

Yes, we need more things like this :)

An old abandonded industrial complex of some sort would be great, I've looked around Belfast for some but couldn't get anywhere :(

Probably never get insurance cover or permission but
    Abandoned Military site

The old magazine fort in The Phoenix Park would be a good one

    .

And cost would be far from the only problem. There's a lot more to running an event than simply hiring a place out and whacking up a notice on a few forum.

But to answer the question, yeah, of course I'd like to play at more of such events.

    Great idea.

You have absolutely two chances of getting insurance - none and even less.

Buy the Warehouse guys a drink, have a chat with them to get an idea of the difficulties, and don't waste your time.

    Pity. Ah well. :(

thanks for the replies guys. I know it will be hard but anything that is easy is worth doing in my view!

I agree that there will be issues with insurance but I know some heavy weights in the insurance industry which could help get the ball rolling.

I am also aware that there is more to putting on an event that that but I just need to know that the demand is there before I put all my effort into it to find out it was for nothing.

I have some sites of my own and access to others so that is not a major issue. I also have some more in mind. I am intending to do all the preperations in advance and then use the sites out of hours for the skirmish. I just want to try think outside the box and make this sport better for everyone in it.

Any ideas / suggestions or critisims are more than welcome. Thanks again for the feedback. Its a great help.

WOW!!! There's a lot of love and hate on this thread.

First off I think its a fantastic idea and fair play for even thinking about it. So many people only play on the same site and never change (I'm as guilty as the next person) and having the opportunity to play in different environments would be fantastic. Other than the Warehouse all Irish site appear to be a field/wood, to be able to play in an urbanish environment would be absolutely brilliant.

There are a lot of places out there that could be rented for a weekend (not everyone will try to rip you off) and as for insurance it may not be too bad. As for cost of entry I would expect it to cost more than a 'normal' site because you're getting to play somewhere special.

    Like the saying goes - 'where there's a will there's a way'

Fair play to you sharp_shooter :)

Well if you can get ANY Irish insurance company,s to cover Airsoft that would be a great start :D
To get insurance for airsoft you must go to the UK insurance company,s. At least that was the way last year, if that's changed let me know! Would rather keep the cash in Ireland, but doubt it would be cheaper.

Great idea though. Would love to see the dream come true.

No hate from me, I'd love this to be a runner. I'm trying to be realistic and I just don't see it happening.

Consider that the Warehouse guys have put in 3 solid months (and endured stalking spamming :) from doomofman) just to get one indoor site open. Consider that it takes months just to put on a band concert in somewhere like Marley Park. Consider that if I were a landowner I'd want to see a Safety Statement, Planning Permission, Insurance and a liability release document that's airtight, watertight, signed in blood and utterly bombproof (if such a thing is even possible).

I just don't want to see the guys wasting their time trying to do this. Better to put effort into something which has some chance of success: Afghanistan... reconciling female X-Factor judges... getting Joe Duffy A Clue...

I'd love to be proven wrong. I just can't see it.
