What can I do

Got offered a full - time job in the city last week. In the interview she mentioned I'd be handing out flyers in the few days leading up to open day which was Monday just gone. It was for a new restaurant opening. Went in and there were 5 other people there and they gave us a bit of training.

I handed out flyers for 3 mornings and then worked 6 hours for them before the big open day sweeping floors etc.

The woman that ''hired'' me then said she'd ring me with my hours on Sunday evening for the week.
This never happened so I rang the guy that owns the place and he said he'll get her to give me a ring in the morning. She never did so I rang again, this time the owner's wife answered and rushed me off the phone saying that they're really busy and they'll contact me tomorrow.

It's now Wednesday and I have the biggest feeling that they just used me to hand out flyers and are now fobbing me off with excuses. I'm so angry what can I do?

Personally, I'd walk down there and talk to someone, and I wouldn't leave until I had an answer AND money paid for the hours already put in.

It certanily sounds like they used you and are now fobbing you off. I dont think there is much you can do about it.

I'd name and shame the restaurant if mod's allow as a start.

I hope you have proof of the offer of employment in writing - if not, you're screwed.

Ok I just contacted the NERA and was told they can do nothing for me. I don't have any proof of the job offer. I feel completely used and I'm so angry that they are going to get away with this :(

Do you have proof (as in can the other staff back up) that you worked a few days and are entitled to pay? If they refuse to pay you for work completed and you can prove you did it then really NERA should be able to help you with that.

Totally agree, its the only way of proper communication and getting your point across.

Be assertive and dont be afraid to walk in and ask if you have the job or not/for the money they owe you!

Personally I believe the lack of communication and respect they have for you would turn me off working there. Its understandable that you may really need a job for xmas presents..etc but do you think you can work with people with a, 'we'll call you back(but dont)' attitude?
    Keep your options open!

Ring them and ask will they be paying you for the work you did. If they say no, print up a few hundred flyers stating how they tricked you into working for free, and stand outside their restaurant handing them out to passers by.

    You'll get your money pronto.

I used to manage credit control so I know how effective the aggressive approach is if you're trying to get paid. :)

Can you name who it was so other people don't get pulled into it?

Do up flyers stating that they still use Irish pork products in their food and hand these to the public outside the restaurant.

Except that would be libel and get the a*s sued off the OP

Any news Yummy Cake? That is really sh*t of them, I'd go down, confront them and refuse to leave till they pay you. I hope you get your money for your work and your proberly better off not working for them if there are so unprofessional.

    best of luck

Actually, you could borrow a video camera and get your brother to go to the restaurant pretending you are from prime time. You'll probably get paid pretty quickly. :)

Well post the flyers in every local house's letterbox and no-one will know who did it.

Thats bad form, I'd go down and demand the money owed.
Did you give up a previous job to take on this one? I certainly hope not!

I wish you would name who it is.

You need to get some graphics made up for your vehicle stating 'debt collector' and park outside the place. I'm sure it will buck them up :)

    This is the best plan
