    Hi guys,

Myself and the girlfriend are heading to New York in February and I've been warned it's going to be absolutely freezing. Can anyone recommend where we could buy affordable winter coats.

    Thanks.

By coats do you mean like a woollen style proper button up coat or just a warm jacket?

If it's the latter, a ski jacket should set you up nicely. That's what I wore traipsing around New York in the winter anyway.

It's cold, but it's not unbearably cold. Think of a very cold day here - one where you put on good insulated shoes, hat scarf & gloves and a decent coat. It's that sorta cold. I'd be more concerned about making sure you had mittens and a good hat - most heat is lost through your head and mittens are warmer than gloves.

Hmm, I don't know about you, but you could tell your girlfriend to look in Penneys! I know their stuff isn't always the best quality, but I was in there one day and picked up a gorgeous coat for like €35 or something like that. It's a really nice style, and doesn't look cheap either! I've been wearing it with just a scarf (I keep meaning to buy gloves though :() and it's lovely and warm! Even if it only lasts through this winter, I'll still have got my wear!

Thanks girls for your helpful replies. We were thinking more of ski jackets I guess. Will defo invest in some gloves and hats! Cheers.

Would you not hold on until you are there, and head to Century 21 on your first day?

You'd save a small fortune and you'll more than likely pick up a really good Spyder Ski Jacket.
