Depends on the lecturer but the general rules are in the student handbook you got in 1st year and can also be found ---> http://www2.ul.ie/pdf/916704055.pdf

As Petee said it depends on the module and the lecturer...
An A1 in certain modules I have is 75%+, while in another module with course work this is the breakdown: This is the marking scheme used. This is used with modules with a project or other assessment elements

    A1 - 85
    A2 - 80
    B1 - 75
    B2 - 70
    B3 - 65
    C1 - 60
    C2 - 55
    C3 - 50
    D1 - 45
    D2 - 40

the 'official' ul marking scheme though has an a at 70% and therefore 3.6 qca which directly translates to a 1.1 iirc dont know if it differentiates between a1 and a2 but i assume it does as its possible to get 4.0 towards your qca

edit; i could be wrong actually i just checked that pdf. all i know is that i was told if ihave an average of 70% across my modules ill have a high enough qca for a first class honors

Depends on lecturer i think...they have freedom to set their own grading scemes i think so as to allow a certain amount of people to get A's and B's etc..

I think all my lecturers use this system:

    A1 --- 75
    A2 --- 68
    B1 --- 61
    B2 --- 57.5
    B3 --- 54
    C1 --- 50.5
    C2 --- 47
    C3 --- 40
    D1 --- 33
