Building a laptop

Got a quick question for you lads...
Has anyone actually built a laptop before? I know it's completely different to building a desktop but I've known no one to do it before in their own gaff. I also know the higher risks involved (especially with high voltage in the monitor) but are their any sites that sell the parts and cases seperatly so you can put your own together? And has anyone got any experience doing it?

Haven't done it myself, there are a few articles out there about the topic. Personally i don't really see the point unless their is a particluar barebones system you like the look of. Unlike a PC you would be limited to what type of components you can choose. If you do try it let us know how you get on.

Building is not that cheap for a laptop. Only build if you have money to throw away just for the experience. It is cheaper to buy one really.

I havent heard of it been done before, and i'd say for the cost/risk involved it wouldn't be worth it. I can't see what you'd gain over "ready made" machine by doing it yourself, even putting it together would be a nightmare.

I've put together working laptops from spare parts- they would have been of a low enough spec, but they worked. I do this frequently (I recondition hardware and supply it to a number of third world projects).

I've had to prick around them myself in work. Replacing small things and checking others, I wasn't sure if it was too hard to put them together from scratch. And i don't have money to throw away either sadly, might just buy one.
