Clearasil & Hormones Charter/Staying Safe Online - Updated 18/08/2012

Hello all, welcome to our brand spanking new forum for younger Boards members, Clearasil and Hormones. This is a forum for teenagers/young people/ whatever you like to be called to discuss things relevent to themselves. There are a few ground rules we have to make this forum a good place to post for everyone:

No encouraging or facilitating illegal activity
As this forum is loosely aimed at people in the 13-21 age bracket (though everyone is welcome of course!) there will be a mix of people who legally are and are not allowed drink or have sex. We're under no illusions that lot of people do these things before they are legally allowed to, and while discussion of these topics is allowed, encouraging people to break the law is not condoned. Examples of this would be:
    • Telling people where to get fake IDs
    • Posting about where to get drink/get into a club if you're underage
    • Encouraging under age people to drink
    • Encouraging underage people to have sex

Likewise those looking for advice on how to take part in illegal activities (where to buy drink, how to get a fake ID etc.) will be treated similarly. This is very important rule to follow as it could have serious implications if boards were to be seen to condone illegal activity amongst minors.

    No Flaming
Posts containing personal attacks on other posters will be edited or deleted on sight, offenders will receive either an infraction or ban of any length at the moderators' discretion, depending on the severity of the attack.

    No spamming
Posts that are just complete nonsense will be deleted. This includes "Woot! I've 1000 posts" posts and threads. You do not need to post threads in multiple forums. You may ask a Moderator if you think the post is important.

    No advertising
While this forum may seem like a market researcher's dream because of all the teenagers it is not to be advertised in, contact the site admins if you want to purchase advertising space on the site. Alternatively, visit if you are trying to sell something.

    No porn of any kind
Even if you are linking to a page that happens to contain porn but you want people to see a different part of the page your post will be deleted/edited and you will be infracted or banned.

    No txt spk
This is especially relevent here, as younger people tend to be the worst offenders for using text speak. Some people find it very difficult to read so out of courtesy please type properly or your post will be deleted (or edited if a mod can be bothered to translate)

    No arguing with a moderator
Do not argue with a moderator in a thread after they have given a warning or a ban etc. If you have an issue with a moderator's action then PM the mod in question. They will discuss it with you. You can then, if unsatisfied with the PM route, follow the dispute resolution procedure as outlined here.

Giving cheek or attitude to a moderator will get you banned.

Do not under any circumstances complain about a mod on this forum. Do it either on PM or in Feedback.

    Reporting Posts
Any thread or post that contravenes the charter should be reported. When reporting a post, make sure you have good reason. Someone disagreeing with you is not a troll, not all arguments are abusive etc. Abusing this feature is frowned upon. If you report a post, it is always a good idea to say so in a thread. It is not required though, but it does reduce the number of repeated reported posts.
As this is a new forum this charter will be edited and adapted as we see fit, we will edit the title to tell you if any changes have been made, please read it if it has been changed.

    Tasteful Posting
Making light of sensitive social issues or otherwise posting distasteful material will result in infractions and/or bannings. There are other forums where those comments are appropriate, not here.

    Happy posting! :)

Now I know most of this is common sense, and anyone who has spent any time on line should know all this, but I think it's important that we have this thread for younger or less experienced internet users. (Sorry if I sound completely patronising here!)

    Guidelines for staying safe online:
    • If anyone PMs you requesting personal information or with anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, do not hesitate in PMing one of the mods. Any actions that seems threatening or predatory in any way will be dealt with very seriously.
    • Don't post any personal information you wouldn't want your parents/teachers/future employers reading.
    • Don't post any contact information in public, you never know who'll see it.
    • Be very wary about who you arrange to meet online, if you do decide to meet, make sure it's during daylight hours in a public place (e.g a cafe)
    • Let someone know where you are going & who with. Bring someone with you or only agree to meet up as part of a group for added peace of mind.
    • Choose a safe public place, such as a park or cafe, and meet during daylight hours. A good tip is to go somewhere you are familiar with.
    • Provide your own travel arrangements & take your mobile with you.
    • Let the person you're meeting know how to recognise you if you haven't exchanged photos.
    • If you feel uncomfortable at any stage, excuse yourself to call a friend for advice or ask for the assistance of someone else on the scene. Never feel embarrassed, your safety is your top priority.
    • Remember do not get overly concerned, basic common sense and intuition are your best guide.
    • Don't post any pictures of yourself you wouldn't let your mother see.

Because this is forum is aimed at teenagers and young adults, we must point out that paedophilia is a serious issue and should not be made light of. This forum is not the place for any jokes about the issue of paedophilia.

Any poster who posts jokes about paedophilia, or anyone who trivialises the issue of paedophilia, will be infracted (banned in the case of repeat offenders)

As mentioned in the charter, overuse of text speak is not tolerated.

However, this does not give people the right to comment on or insult another user's spelling or grammar. I am sick of seeing posts which contribute nothing to a thread and serve only to insult another user for minor spelling mistakes or typos. These types of posts are unhelpful, unnecessary and disrupt the general flow of conversation.

Anyone who insults another user's spelling or grammar will receive an infraction.

BACK SEAT MODDING: The mods of the forum are listed, no other user (bar ADMINS) has moderation rights in the forum. As such we view interference in moderation as a breach of rules. If you have an issue with a post in this forum, the correct procedure is to use the report post function on the left of the post. This is a boards-wide policy.

RULE DISCUSSION: With the exception of general feedback in the designated stickied thread, we do not tolerate discussion of moderation, moderation of posts or reportable posts in thread. If you have a problem with the forum rules, PM the mods or start a thread in Help Desk.

In honour of Sticky Tuesday I am amending the charter (which is very sticky indeed) to include the following:

Any unmarried member of this forum may not post on a Sunday afternoon between 14:00 and 14:25 unless they are wearing a hat, or a hat-like object.

    That is all.

    Dispute resolution procedure

    1. If you have a problem with a post, thread or a ban from a forum, the first step should be a PM to the moderator in question. If you are not comfortable with PM'ing that particular mod, you can PM the other mods of that forum. You will find the list of the mods at the bottom of the forum in question. If you have been banned from a forum it is still possible to enter it to see who the mods are by logging out of first.
    2. If you are not happy with the outcome of the above, then next step is to PM the Category Moderators. They are listed alongside the regular mods.
    3. Failing that, you can then take it to Help Desk forum where an Admin can become involved and give an opinion on the matter.

    Things not to do

    1. Argue with a mod on thread - This is just so that the thread doesn't become derailed by something other than the topic of the thread
    2. Start a new thread in the forum you are having a problem in
    3. Start a thread in Feedback
    4. Start a thread in Help Desk until all other avenues for resolution have been exhausted
    5. Send abusive PMs (this will earn you a siteban)

Mereckons this should probably be in this thread.

A special forum for dispute resolution has been set up and can be found here. If you have any issue with a moderator's decision, follow the dispute resolution procedure as outlined in the forum. The chain of command goes Moderator->CMod->Admin. Jumping straight to the forum to plead your case will not be looked on favourably by anyone, so please follow the procedure that is outlined.

Can I remind posters that personal abuse of any kind, whether it is masked or not will not be tolerated. Any posters who insult other members will be infracted/banned accordingly.

Due to receiving an increase in request to edit or delete posts lately we feel that it should be added in here.

Remember is a public website and there is always a chance that somebody you know in real life will discover your boards identity. So try and think before you post, don't post anything that you wouldn't want your parents, friends or future employers knowing.

Have some common sense, don't post any overly identifying personal details, be careful of what pictures you post, don't post contact details, etc.
