The Abercrombie shop near Regent Street is painful. Seriously.

    Hey,

I've shopped on Oxford Street coming up to Christmas before and it is crazy crazy crazy. Although things are supposed to be quieter this year because lots of people are going to the new Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepards Bush which might be worth your while visiting too. I think its on the central line. Probably whether you go to Oxford Street or Westfield it would be best to go on a weekday as it might be a bit quieter than the weekend.

As for shops on Oxford Street, if you like cheap and cheerful there is an excellent three story H&M near the Bond Street tube exit, House of Fraser is pretty good, as is John Lewis. Also, there is a monster Topshop at Oxford Circus! At least four floors, although its always hectic in there.

If you google it you can get maps of the Street with all the shops.

try this http://www.streetsensation.co.uk/oxford/os_n01.htm, its give you a run down of all the shops, i've been a couple of times and find it best if you get off at either marble arch or tottenham court road which are on either end of the road, we usually do one side at a time

I would go to the new Westfield shopping centre in London if I were you. Its only open a couple of weeks.

Its absolutely fantastic and all under one roof! Oxford street is just crazy at this time of year.

I wouldn't bother going to Westfield unless you have time. There's more shops on Oxford Street and they're much better because most of them are the flagship stores. It's on the same tube line (Central) so you can always hop on after, its open until 10pm during the week.

I would try and get there as early as possible as it really does get manic (Topshop especially - queueing for 40 mins in sweltering heat just to try something on is really not a good experience!). Soho is close by and is a nice area for shopping also.

Theres a good shopping area around Covent Garden as well if you have some free time. The shops are much smaller than on Oxford Street but its a nice spot to wander round and there are some really good shoe shops down there. When you exit Covent Garden tube, take a left and cross the road. I think the main shopping street might be called Neal Street.

Also, keep an eye out for St Christopher's Place on Oxford Street, down a tiny laneway near Bond Street station on the Selfridges side of the street. You need a pretty sharp eye cause its really easy to miss. There are a few nice shops down there and some nice places to get something to eat.

Westfield is just up the road from me and has been completely jammed since it opened. I'm going to wait till after Christmas to start exploring that one. :D
Oxford St has been pretty manic the last few saturdays I've been in.
Can't tell ya what it's like during the week..but it may be a bit calmer.
    Enjoy!
