Or I might be doing something stupid. Bought these tyres http://www.cycleways.com/store/product/28941/Spe-Tyr-Borough-Cx-32c-Blk/ to go on these rims http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=38442&eid=123 to give me a bit more rubber on the ice.

I've so far blown 2 tubes, the problem is that tyres are folding, aren't tight enough so the rim comes out, the tube pushes it's way out and bang!
The tubes are 28c, the tyres are 32c but don't think that's the problem. I've only pumped them to 80psi, the tyres say 70-100.

The annoying thing was I bought these in cycleways and I asked for a recommendation. Didn't mention the wheels because at the time didn't think it would matter but the assistant never asked about and steered me to these tyres which are more suited to a clown car.

Am I likely to get any redress going in to cycleways and complaining (not judging by a current thread)? Is this an occupational hazard with folding tyres?

When did the tubes blow? As you were pumping up the tyres?

One did a couple of minutes after I'd pumped it up, I was being careful and was sure the rim was seated ok. The first one blew up a couple hours after pumping up (thankfully while it was sitting in the hallway - a builder in the house thought he'd blown a circuit, I was clueless even when I noticed the ribbons of rubber the next morning).
Thread here suggests I'm not the first to have this problem http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12559868 , same bike as mine interestingly. Will stick the gatorskins back on and hope for no frost tomorrow.
