Damn, was about to say good riddance, a horribly overrated band.

Not really. When have they ever 'dissappointed' with a new album/song?

    Bull****,

My mate saw them last night in the UK....

    You scaremongering ****!

    Theyre playing glasgow tonight!

Ah sure ive seen em more times than ive had hot dinners now at this stage!

And theyre last 2 albums aint a patch on their first 2 albums, at all.....

I prefer the hillbilly country rock than the cheese-filled stadium singalongs!

    :P

True dat. The second album can't be bet for brilliance :) I keep waiting for them to make another one like that. They release a new one every couple of weeks or so though so it shouldn't be long now

Just because they played last night or even tonight doesn't necessarily mean they haven't effectively broken up ...... contractual obligations an' all.

I saw them during the year and they certainly seemed to play that gig like a bunch of humans who didn't want to be there.

i'd stop waiting tbh, bands never go back to what they are good at.

i've been waiting 12 years for a pinkerton II by weezer, and 5 years for a vertigo of bliss II by biffy clyro. (now i don't want a carbon copy of the albums but something that's on par quality wise).

i've given up hope at this stage, and went off and broadened my musical taste

I knew it was too good to be true. I hope they do break up. They rape my ears on regular occasion.

Also they are not over rated because they are not that highly rated. Only a handful of mags actually gave them good reviews. In America they are not that big only in the Europe because over here we tolerate bad music like The Killers and The Spastic Monkeys

I've seen them a number of times -

They play every gig like a bunch of guys who dont wanna be there!

Its just their stage presence in my opinion..... its just thanks, next song, bang!

I went to one of their after parties and they were all there having a ball with each other whilst Jared was playing the decks.....

Met the drummer guy aswell, truly nice chap.....

The topic seemed to be a little ray of sunshine... untill I read the second post...

I find it really a pity the way they've gone in the last two albums, I was a really big fan of the first two. I still remember the excitement when my mate bought the second one the day it came out, we smoked a few joints and discussed it, then smoked a few more and loved it.

Ah well... I'm an old man with my fave bands gone at 22...

Ah well... I'm an old man with my fave bands gone at 22...

There's new bands making music all the time you know.

It gets harder for bands to win as they go on through their career. Keep the same style and they get criticised for not progressing. Change their sound (and perhaps, god forbid, become more popular in the process) and they risk alienating their early fans.
People get older, they change. Musicians are no exception.

Not a massive KOL fan btw. I think, and always have thought, that they're a decent band, no more, no less.

I'm 17 and my 3 favourite bands are finished (ATD-I, ¡Forward, Russia! and the Smiths).

This, however, would ease the pain. Wretched band.

    Pinkerton remains fookin deadly.

Green Album;s fun. Everything since has been decidedly meh.

I keep on hearing people go on about KOL's earlier albums and keep on meaning to look into them and never do. The new one isnt too bad though...

Puzzle is crap but I think Infinity Land is absolutely awesome. Maybe not as good a TVOB though.

Agreed. Weezers first album was great, but Pinkerton was just on another level. Green was a good, if disappointing follow-up. But the 3 albums since have each been worse than the last.

KOL- First album was great, Second album was just on another level. 3rd album was a good, if disappointing follow-up. Next album was really bad.

    Is that some pattern emerging?

God I really wished that this was true. Kings of leon are the most over-rated over-played band on the planet at the minute. And in Defence of the Artic Monkeys (or Spastic Monkeys as they are been called here) There talent far surpasses that of the Kings Of Leon. Thier lyrics are genius and really speak true of modern life on these islands they are writing fantastic songs about fights waiting in line for a taxi etc etc who here has not expierienced such an incident. Your sex is on fire on the other hand (they should really get that looked at)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,203 ✭✭✭partyguinness

I loved the first two albums..wasnt too impressed with direction the 3rd and 4th albums went...actually I hated the 3rd and 4th albums and never play them..The Strokes (remember them!!!) albums went the same way but worse.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 862 ✭✭✭cautioner

Yes, yes, I hate them because they're popular.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 325 ✭✭ArthurGuinness

Greenday went that way aswel first few albums were great it all went down hill after that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81 ✭✭bigjigwig77

I'm not annoyed that they got popular or anything, I liked the fact that people starting talking about them more after the third album.

I was just hoping that they would go back to quality song writing on the new album and instead we just got a pop rock album with none of the class southern rock and slighty sleezy lyrics of their first two...

Woah, woah!! What happened to ¡Forward, Russia! ?? Did they split up?
    Damn. :(

EDIT: Just looked up Wikipedia, it says "hiatus" so they may be back sometime. I meant to get the 2nd album but never got round to it.

As for KOL, "Only By The night" is a good album, if not as good as "BOTT". I find "Aha-Shake Heartbreak" overrated. Haven't listened to the first one properly yet. It would be a huge shame if they split up.

KOL's first 2 albums are easily better than the last 2. King of the Rodeo's one of my favourite songs ever. The last 2 albums werent as good. The last few songs (on both) in particular (cold desert? come on like). Still love em though.

Yeah, they're gone but will definitely be back in the future. It was down to the singer wanting to produce and one working in a record label and one wanting to do art in college and not wanting to gig but not wanting to work on new material either. I'd expect them back 4 years, maximum.
And if you haven't got the second album, I'd urge (and probably beg) you to get it right away. It's astounding. My album of the year, easily.

Some posts edited. Please PLEASE do a Google before you post anything at all in reference to a gig.

God didnt know they were hated so much..I mean if you would all rather a band produced the same sounding songs over and over again fair enough..whatever your into..Because of Times is still their #1 Album though:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,665 ✭✭✭gary the great

Whoever said Cold desert is crap needs to go listen again, thats one of the best songs they've done, its amazing.

Everyone goes on about how great the first 2 albums are and how crap the second 2 are.Listen to them all back to back and you'll see there isnt much between them. Theres a lot of ****e on the first 2 that people forget about.

BOTT is imo the best album. I once was one of these people that waffled on about how fantastic the first 2 albums were, but after listening to to Only By Night a lot, its really grown on me and after Bott, the other 3 albums are all equal to me.

Anyway nathan said they have 5 songs done for the next album and they've gone back to having fun and just rocking out rather than trying so hard.

The biggest travesty ever though was the exclusion of My third House on an album, how did it not make it onto an album is beyond me, one of their top 5 songs....

Fantastic band. All their albums are enjoyable with minimum filler. Now that they're huge though, some hardcore fans are gonna feel a little cold. Only By The Night is more commercial but its still absolutely brilliant. Crawl is a great tune.

Nah... they are all very similar in fairness...

They have two types of songs : loud and quiet.

Everytime I've seen them live they've sucked too. But my mates did see them in the Ambassador (I think) years ago and said they were brilliant.

They've got better everytime ive seen them live and ive been seeing them since 2004. Seen them last week and it was by far and away the best gig of thiers ive ever seen. They now have a lighting show to which adds to the experience.

Jared must be one of the coolset people ever to watch on stage to...Matt could do with getting abit of presence though.

    +5.

Or at least it should be +5 by this point, because if anyone says Puzzle is better than any of their previous albums, I'm not quite sure what should be done with them. Some good songs, but weak overall.

As far as KOL go, I don't listen to any of their albums, but some of the later singles are alright. Though I can't stand (insert KOL vocalist's name here)'s extremely repetitive singing in On Call and Charmer.

I don't understand this band. They're hailed as being original and one of the most talented bands around etc., and yet anything I hear of them just sounds dull and boring. Saw them support the Pixies in 2005 and didn't really think much of them. Never bothered listening to them properly, but I can't say I'd be expecting much if I did.

I saw them support the Pixies to (not in Dublin) and without doubt that was their worst performance, they've come a long way since then.

Listen to this and tell me its boring and unoriginal - its awesome.
