    Hi,

I am just wondering what supplements could get you ban from sprinting, appart from steroids.

Also do IAAF do drug test in the IUAA competitions I have never heared of any. Creatine, , HMB, amino system and protein supplement are legal right?

Crikey, big subject Mr Spy. I'm sure one or two elite athletes/coaches will advise on the testing regime. Here is a useful link, including the 'prohibited' list.

Of course theoretically there is testing and you'd want to be an eejit or a fool to think otherwise. You can tested at any meet.

Also, if you aren't sure check out http://www.eirpharm.com/, its really up to you to educate yourself as using a line such as "some guy on a chatboard said it was ok" is not a defence.

Alternatively, you could maybe not bother with any supplement (even if legal) and focus on the more important aspects of sprinting, like hard work and consistency.

Good diet and hard smart training do a lot more to help you train harder. Could you elaborate on the levelling the playing field bit?

So does the suppliments not help while still keeping good diet and training hard?
I know couple of sprinters who use testosterone I just wonder how they never test them.

If you are saying that local runners may be doping (which may or may not be the case) then it is exceedingly stupid to risk one's health to seek to gain an advantage at local level.

As Tingle and ss43 have said, 99% of success is down to the quality of training plus a healthy lifestyle. Given the talent and potential ability in the first place, that is.

Then at the very top, international level systematic and guided doping might add the 1% if you wish to take that road and the risks that accompany it.

Depends on your diet, genetic predisposition. If your diet provides sufficient vitamins, minerals, general nutrition, you'll get no benefit from the supplements - you'll either have too much of some things which can be harmful or you'll just piss it out. Either way, if your diet's giving you enough, supplements are just a waste of money. That's for the legal ones.

Taking illegal ones might have benefit but so would riding a bike in a race. It's irrelevant - it's cheating. There is the flipside though, that in taking them you're admitting that you're not good enough to compete without cheating which I would imagine would have a negative psychological effect and reduce motivation.

If they're not getting tested, it's probably because they're not very good. I don't think the testers go around testing middle of the road athletes.
