Installing AUX point

    Hi Guys,

I'm hoping to have an Aux point installed in my car. I want to be able to listen to my mp3 player through the car speakers. I don’t want to go down the FM transmitter route, as I've already tried this, and i wasn’t entirely satisfied.

Can anyone suggest somewhere i could get one installed, or info, points or tips i should be looking out for when looking to get one installed?

    Cheers

It all depends on the car & stereo which you have.

It may or may not be possible. You might have to replace the head unit...

Buy this and either pull out the radio yourself or get someone who can and plug this into the back of the headunit.

I bought this radio on eBay (from the same seller) for my own car not too long ago. It's great, and it has USB compatibility:

Hey anybody know the cheapest way to get a Aux connection for a Ford Focus?

Radio is like this so changing it is not an option

    Ford-6000cd.jpg

Help would be greatly appreciated. That ebay seller doesn't seem to have a Ford connection.

Cheapest i can find is £59 sterling including shipping. If anybody can do any better i'd be glad to hear it.

    Thanks in advance

That looks like its either traditional double-DIN or would easily get a fascia adapter to replace it for single DIN + a CD case slot; shouldn't be that hard to replace at all if thats the route you wanted.

considering the radio already has an AUX button, then i guess all you have to do is plug a jack lead into the rear of the radio.
you wont get control through the steering wheel or anyting, but it will work perfect.

had that option on one of my old BMW's.

I have got as far as getting the keys from ebay (for radio removal) but have not actually had time to finish the job.
If anyone else has done this i would like to hear their experiance.

I have the same stero in my '05 Focus. Got the keys off ebay for about £5, got the aux cable from my local ford dealer here in London for about £8. I passed the cable from the back of the radio to the area where the cig. lighter is. I found this is a great place to rest the ipod/mp3 player. All works a treat. Only took about 15 minutes.

I've the same stereo in a Ford Mondeo 04, there is an AUX jack point in the glovebox. Ive never used it but I presume it works, I'd be surprised considering it's the same head unit that your Focus doesnt have one in the same place. Far right near top of glovebox.

    From next Monday: http://www.lidl.ie/ie/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20081215.p.SilvercrestCDUSBCarRadio

These were on sale just recently, another also with Bluetooth, so some stores may still have them and you wouldn't need to wait till Monday :)

I bought an Xcarlink from www.xcarlink.co.uk and fitted it myself. It works really well for my Ipod and it had a 3.5mm jack plug as well. I fitted it to a 07 Passat. The sound quality compared to my old Itrip is top notch.

If you dont mind, just a quick question on this - I made one attempt to get the stereo out using the 4 keys but could not get it to budge. Is there some technique to doing this , do you need more that one person ?
    Thanks.

I got it out on my own, Not that hard to get out from what I can remember. Make sure you have the keys the correct way around. Take one side out at a time so you can use both hands. One hand on a top corner and one on the bottom corner.

Bit of an update on this incase anybodys thinking of putting a MP3 cable in their ford over the christmas.

Firstly dont buy from Halfords. The ford MP3 player cable is €95 in the ford dealer its €15.

Secondly as i found out the hard way:
If your CD player looks like this
    Ford-6000cd.jpg Your ok

    If it looks like this:
    Ford_6000-CD_RADIO-SINGLE-CD-6000-CD_4M5T-18C815-AE_FDC2005.jpg

    Your boned

I didn't even realise mine had a CDDJ button where the AUX button is on some models and it turns out that after installing the kit i had no way of putting the radio into Aux mode. Incidently if anybody knows a way around this i'd be interested.
