Last week "ITV 1 London" was added to the freesat EPG on 977. If you have your freesat box set up with a NI (or STV) postcode you should now be able to watch ITV HD services, when available, by going to 977 and using the red button.
I watched "Big Fight Live" last night in HD, great picture quality.
Think the Star Wars film today is also HD.
Assume this works for Sat4Free boxes too.

not sure about the sat4free. I though it was locked to the utv region only.

Does Sat4Free not use the Freesat EPG?

It does but uses the NI postcode locked in. ITV HD was/is not available to NI users

Odd then that it would be available on Freesat boxes up north but not Sat4Free.

In theory, it should be there. In practice, only a Sat4Free user could say.

Sat4Free gives you an HD service for free, so you can watch HD programmes from the BBC and ITV.

They advertise that its available anyway. Im sure you'd have some comeback if it wasnt.

They advertised it from the start even when it definitely was not available in NI. So far i've not heard of any sat4free Hd user confirning they can view it.

"ITV HD now available to freesat UTV users!"

Hardly accurate when you technically still cannot watch HD off UTV.

    |I think it is accurate as it does state if you are a utv user, you can easily put on itv and watch HD. doesn't state that UTV has HD off it...

It is available in the way that non SKY EPG channels are available on a digibox... technically there but hard to get at.

Thats not quite true. It is a channel on the EPG at 977. Its not other channels.

My point was that you cannot watch HD on UTV by pressing the red button. There is an alternative but it is not as convenient.

Not as inconvenient though as 'other channels' on a Sky box which you have to add! Just out of interest how do you record ITVHD via a Freesat PVR?

Sorry for bringing this up again, but is ITV HD available in the republic. I was thinking of getting the grundig HD receiver on satelite.ie and was wondering what hd channels i would get? the bbc hd but is there anything else?

Yes, it is available, just enter a London postcode when setting up and you will get ITV London on 103 which will allow you to press red button for ITV HD access when broadcasting. Even if you choose an NI postcode to have UTV at 103 then ITV London is still at 977 on EPG where you can access ITV HD.

BBC HD and Luxe HD are the only other HD channels currently available FTA but there are bound to be more coming in the future (CH4HD etc)

Thanks for that. I guess a FTA HD/DTT combo would be the best thing to go for. Where are these available?

There are multiple options. Some of us have got a Globalteq 700 which seems to be the cheapest. You can also get a Clarktech 500, MVision 200 or a Technomate 6900 Combo. Search online for various pricing options.
