Thought I'd ask the experts, any tips on getting to sleep? I counted 253 sheep before I gave up.

try some valerian root extract before bed , can get drops to and a drop of lavender oil on your pillow should do the job

he actually raises a good point. THAT does actually help. Something to do with the release (if you'll pardon the expression) of certain chemicals in the brain which can trigger sleepiness.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,060 ✭✭✭darkmaster2

Melatonin is one of those natural chemicals that get released at sleep time, you can get supplements that work quite well to help you nod off.

As mentioned before valerian root is very effective too.

Actually my real problem was that I started trying to estimate the number of sheep using basic geometry.

You had 253 sheep and the best idea you could come up with was to count them? 0_o

You sure you're from Galway?! :pac:

In an attempt to defilthyfy the post it seems Orestes has made it worse. I blame our over.. fertile imaginations.

When I get involved, nobody has hope of defilthyfying it. My mind is corrupt beyond belief.. the amount of hassle I get from friends for making _EVERYTHING_ into filth. So many lulz from it though.

It's amazing how quickly a perfectly innocent thread can turn into a fapping one... boards is a happy land. :)

Anyway, lavender is great for helping me sleep. I got a great little oil burner in dunnes 2 or 3 years ago that I use when I can't sleep. And if that doesn't work I listen to Debussy, some mega relaxing music he wrote! Arabesque No.1 in E minor is the best evaaar.

I often get more alert when listening to music and start paying attention to it.

Knew someone who could only sleep with the tv on. This resulted in a Law and Order marathon and me having some seriously fúcked up dreams. :pac:

    Thief!!

Same here. Just ask Nerin!! But oh the lolz.

When you sleep, your body temperature drops, so Try having a cool shower if you cant sleep. Dont have the heating on either, esp if your bed's next to a rad.

Counting sheep is actually counter productive to sleeping, because you're keeping your mind active.

Start going to sleep at the same time each night. It helps you're body tell itself when its time for bed.

Don't do stimulating exercise(we won't include sex in this, coz of the melatonin released, and falling asleep with someone else in the bed helps alot)Exercise gets the heart pumping more, increasing blood flow to your brain and body, upping your body temp and brain activity.

    1. Make sure you are completely comfortable. No noises, no lights, clean bedsheets.
    2. Breath in.
    3. When exhaling tell yourself to relax all the muscles in your body.
    4. Go to step 2.

I've been working nights for four years and this is the best solution I've found.

or try relaxing from the toes and up over a short while

don't go for a walk , read or go on the interweb as that'll just get your brain to wake up again
