Will any sat box do for Fta

Hi there

My brother has just moved out of the home place where he had the full sky package in, so now there is just a satellite dish on the wall with no sat box connected to it. Parents now have no channels at all in sitting room and are on about getting the free to air system. I know they will need an aerial for the irish channels but am just wondering if they need one of the sky fta boxes to go with this dish (150euro new) or if any old sat box will do for the bbc's itv's etc.

Any digital satellite receiver would do, like those ones sold in Lidl for example.

A standard digital receiver would need to be tuned though, unlike a Skybox or Freesat box, which tune and update themselves.

A freesat box would be good for the UK channels. Available from satellite.ie. Also available in sat4free (irish branding) from DID or Powercity. If you're up north or in UK anytime soon they can be bought in Argos.
