Roaccutane Cost

Hi, Ive just been proscribed roaccutane and want to find out how much its going to cost me as the dermatologist was a bit vague. She mentioned something about not having to pay more than 80 euro per month, by law...or something ? And that I can claim back money. If someone can shed some light on this I would really appreciate it.

I also have health insurance with Quinn health care but I think they only help with consultant fees...and only when its over 800 euro or along those lines.

    So far.

    Doctor Visit - 50 euro
    Dermatologist - 120 euro
    Blood Test - 80 euro

I have to go back to the dermo in 6 weeks and get another blood test, so will be shelling out another 130 euro for those...so thats 380 euro before I even factor in the cost of the antibiotics.

Any info would be much appreciated. (I'm on 40mg per day for 4 months)

    Cheers

Talk to your pharmacist about cost - you might find that it costs the same in many pharmacies.

Under the Drug Payment Scheme, the most you pay for any presciption medication is about €90 per month http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/health/entitlement-to-health-services/drugs-payment-scheme

When you are doing a tax return, you can put medical services down as an expense and reclaim tax. There are of course certain rules. www.revenue.ie

    it's €100 per month

if you are working and you pay PRSI, then you can't pay more than that for prescriptions per month.

go to your chemist and tell them. they'll give you a form and either fast track it, or you'll have to wait a few days until it's done

all you need is your pps

It's not to do with working, I used to pay 90/month when I was a student, sister paid 90/month when on disabilty etc. Victor's link gives you more details, your local HSE office will have all the forms and info too. You apply for a Drugs Payment Scheme card (for you, your household or both), then only pay 100/month for all mediciations included under the DPS banner. The drugs will be 100/month from January. You might also need other medications while on roaccutane, these will likely be included. Your pharmacist will tell you if they are or not, but have never found a drug not to be yet :)

Ring Quinn healthcare and see how much you can claim back on your dermatologist, it'll depend on your policy. How does your blood tests cost you 80 euros btw? Mine used to be 50 at my GP, which also included him giving me my usual monthly check up for other health issues.

Family expenditure covers the nominated adult, his or her spouse/partner and children under 18 years or under 23 if in full-time education.

I'm 23 years old and living at home...does that mean I wont be covered or just that I have to sign up separately from the family ?

Does anyone know the cost normally, without using this scheme ? Cheers for the info.

I don't know about this but are you sure? I can't imagine any consultant could charge 800, around 150 would be average and I don't think people make constant return visits to a consultant to run up such a high bill. Could the 800 be something to do with a hospital stay?

The drugs payment card can easily be sorted out in any pharmacy. I think you swipe the card with every purchase. You pay the bill until it has reached €100 then you pay no more for the rest of the month.

Unfortunately it's expensive but hopefully improving your skin will improve your confidence and therefore your life in general.

Depending on whether you're male or female as well-you may have to get a pregnancy test. I had to go in and get one every month before they'd give me my new prescription...even when I'd no boyfriend at the time.
Your dosage, as stated by your dermatologist, will also have an input into how many boxes you will go through
