Were you watching Film Four tonight by any chance?

Nope he's not a good actor. He's in some undeniably great movies (Departed, Boogie Nights) but it's clear he's just there to play a particular type. If anything his brother Donnie is a better actor from what I've seen of him.

He was very good in Planet of the Apes, Shooter.
He kinda suits those kind of moody roles such as Max Payne, Shooter etc.

He's typecast for want of a better phrase.

He plays a certain type of character, ie hard-ass (from Boston) in most films. Does it well.

For some reason, I find myself agreeing with you more frequently, Pigman. I would say Donnie is the better actor out of the two, he was terrific in Band of Brothers.

yeah i'd lean towards donnie too, thought he was class in band of brothers. i think marky mark is a bit of a plank to be honest, and it seems he tries to carry that persona over into interviews etc

completely agree with Mark Wahlberg being type cast, in ways his role in 'four brothers' sums it up, i liked him in 'we own the night' more than an other role he played

i personally really like him as an actor. Big hit was a crap film but he played the part well. 4 brothers he played a great part in it. He was an annoying feck in departed but he was supposed to do that. He is not a brilliant actor but he is very good. Class in shooter

Donnie Wahlberg is an underrated great actor better than Mark

Mark's oscar nomination for The Departed was so undeserved

He is best at the action roles but i will wait to see him in The Lovely Bones

Skip to 2:13. That, in three short seconds, is why he is not a good actor (bit after is **** too).

In fairness his facial reaction is pretty good at 0:56. I bet he achieved it by imagining the world had run out of cough syrup.

He is a dreadful actor .
A door has more facial expressions.

I was just about to post the very same thing.

Awful! The bit where he says "Oh no" just summed up his crapness for me.
It was up there with "Oh my legs" from the remake of the Wickerman.

I liked him in I Heart Huckabees and Boogie Nights.. He's pretty good

I like Mark Wahlberg tbh, I've seen more movies with him in it that I've liked than ones I didn't.

    Shooter
    The Departed
    I Heart Huckabees
    Three Kings

Jumping on the good to very good bandwagon. In Boogie Nights and I Heart Huckabees he puts in fine performances. Also good in Three Kings and that movie that broke him, what's it called? Rage? Anger? Something like that anyway.

So what if he has a few weak performances on his CV, few actors don't.

He is a good actor that has done bad films, really bad films !
I love the Saturday night live sketch on him, couldn't find the entire sketch but they show part of it in this interview, priceless !

I assumed he was deliberating way overacting in that film and actually found his acting amusing...in what was a daft daft film

i thought he was fantastic in the departed and some other films of the past but he's doing himself no favours starring in the eye wrenching "max payne". oh how awful 'twas
