Another fantastic, and truly insightful thread.

Still though, you have to give props to the effects, bar the stop-motion, it's barely aged. Same goes for Total Recall.

It does hold up really well. :)
Cillain Murphy reminds me a awful lot of a young Peter Weller.

More Buckaroo Banzi then Robocop though. Unless he starts wrapping thin foil around his head

Remake on the way of course.

Horrible idea in theory, but the choice of director could make it an interesting one to watch.

Hmmm, now that you mention it - he does look a bit like him.

Would be good pick for the new movie too. He's small enough to fit inside the suit, plus he's got the whole name thing going for him.

Yeah. Cillian Murphy for Robocop. Better then Hugh Jackman playin him anyway

It's a part that could kill your career though. Look at poor Peter Weller, a very good actor by all means... but how much work has he gotten since Robocop.

Forget about Robocop I wanna see a sequel to Buckaroo Banzi.

Murphy was in a film recently called Watching the Detectives. If that hasent killed his carrer. Nothing will.

So I say. Say It loud and say it proud Cillian Murphy for Alex Murphy

Id say they could even get Sean Moncreif back

They cut stuff out still channel 4 is one of the worst for editing simpsons, friends, scrubs! But back on movies my favourite was there edit of die hard "Yipee kay-yay kommosacki"

Robocop is a great movie loved it as a kid, watched robocop 1+2 in one day when i was about 10. Could one kid see more violence in a single day? Well maybe but that would involve abusive parents!

Ya but thats just stuff that is on early in the day. They NEVER cut movies.
AFAIK no channels show cut/tv versions anymore, unless they are been shown pre-watershed.

I've noticed films with big chunks cut out of them to fit into a certain time-frame.

Probably why I rarely watch any movies on terrestrial channels anymore.

Robocop is a straight-up masterpiece. I reckon it’s Verhoeven’s best and for a film that’s over 20 years old it’s aged really well. It’s brilliantly cast ( Ronny Cox and Peter Weller are particularly good), the script and story are excellent. And the stop-motion effects still look superb. Also the Poledouris score is one of his best, I’d rate it as second only to his Conan work.

I love this film. It is brilliant, I love the satirical futuristic advertising in particular. Nobody can do that as good as Verehoven.

The IMDB page is here. The fact that Darren Aronofsky is tied to directing it at the moment could make it really interesting.

And for all you Bargin hunters the Robocop trilogy is only 9.99 in HMV :D

UTV cut the last 2 mins off vanishing point before, thus ripping its heart out

What parts were done in stop motion? :o

    [Edit]
Oh wait, stupid me. ED-209... I was thinking of Robocop only, and couldnt think of any parts. Yeah, ED-209 is a classic in my book, but his effects really need updating :p

Haha was only saying to the brother I think I'll stick on Robocop tonight, log on here and low and behold.

I love that film! The amount of quotable lines.

    Bitches leave.
I got this problem, cops don't like me, so I don't like cops.
    Can you fly Bobby.
    Give the man a hand.
    Your move, creep.

And of course let us not forget...I'd buy that for a dollar! Brilliant film!:D

"His digestive system is incredible simple"???

I read on IMDB about funny things about Robocop and one was where does the waste go after he has eaten the babyfood??? Ha they should have left that part out but I suppose thats what happens when you read to much into things!

After watching it the other night I'm amazed how well it's aged.
With the exception of some of the clothes the film really holds it's own.

The stop motion compared to today's CGI may be a dated but aside from that...

I'd buy that for a dollar!

I was always a fan of the sequel as well. The battle at the end between the two Robocops is brilliant.

Oh and remember the arcade game? It wasn't a proper arcade if they didn't have Robocop yelling whatever the hell it is he's yelling in the background.

Remember it?! I had the Spectrum 48k with the old monochromatic colours.
Remember the foto-fit level? And targeting the muggers that are holding your one hostage.

    Great memories.

There was a light gun version on the Commodore 64.... it didn't work too well.

"Drop it" is what he says. Bloody hated that game as it was next to impossible.

The Robocop Rap is fantastic though !
Off topic but check out the Predator Rap by the same crowd.
