Connecting Wii to wireless network

How safe is it to connect the wii to the wireless network? I suppose what I really want to know is - can the kids browse the internet if it's connected or do they just have access to a wii site?

The kids are young, but want to be able to play their friends online, but if the internet is totally open to them (no parental control) I don't think it would be suitable - I know nothing .

Thanks in advance for any advice on this

if you have the browser installed then yes.

it has to be purchased from the "wii online store" afik

they would have access to rss feeds such as news

i dont think you can browse the net on the wii. You cant on mine anyways. I think you need to pay for software to allow you to surf the web. Could be wrong but afaik thats the way it was when i bought mine

There are parental controls you can set to stop them going into the Wii shop by setting a pin nujmber etc. They can't get onto the internet with just the wireless connection, last poster is correct :)

Thanks a million all - we have no software bought, so that is that sorted :)

Was just a bit worried about connecting it up as the 17yr old has his PS3 connected and I have seen him access his bebo page on it, and was afraid the wii would be the same. Glad to hear it's not :D

    :p

when a weather forcast starts telling a story of how a guy broke a babies back and cracked it's skull that eventually died...

    i'll worry about that...

some parents dont want young kids listening to certain types of news
