    Folks

Sorry if this has been asked before, had a look through but couldn't find anything. My Dad has a sky box recorder and he wants to move some of the programmes onto disk. Can anyone tell me how he cdo this, what piece of equipment etc he'll need to buy?

    Thanks
PS Am a complete non-techie (as you may have guessed!)

DVD Recorder will be fine connected to scart on back of box. Cost about €100 :)
Box of DVD+ or DVD- disks cost about €10.

Thanks RKQ... is it difficult to tune in?

No - automatic. I've a philips, so I click the "source" button on the remote and there it is. No tuning involved. Well I fooled around abit with the scart leads.
Naturally the record quality is excellent as you will be recording a digital programme onto a digital disk. Over 4 Gigs per disk ( up to 8 hours of recording per disk!)

I watch the film / programme as I record it. But its also possible to set it up so you can record from the sky box, by setting the DVD to record on the timer - so it will record the programme and you can go to bed.

Erh no, they DRM the content for a reason. Besides the Sky+ box has macrovision technology built in as I'm sure the DVD player would. The picture isn't going to come out right.

How is recording from television piracy? What are VCRs' for? Or DVD recorders?

The macrovision only kicks in when you try to record one of the box office channels! Once you are recording normal channels it will come out just fine!

Use the copy function which is the red button when you are in the planner and select a couple of programmes to play during the night. Buy a dvd recorder which a harddrive built in which you can record to first and then tidy up the recording ie take out the ads and unwanted credits then rip to dvd!

Another option is to pick up an Archos which can connect to your Sky box and it will record the programmes as avi's which you can store on an external harddrive.

I have both and find the Archos the handier way! You can record hours of tv to a standard dvd which plays back on your pc or any dvd player with divx/xvid support!

Ummm, what about the feature (that has been quite well planned and implemented) called "Copy" on Sky+?

You have an unusual definition of piracy, IMO.
