Since yesterday i've been trying to upload my photos from my 50D to the laptop, but it just doesn't work. I know I have it plugged in alright. When I click into the camera from my computer, its nothing there, and when i leftclick and press get pictures, it waits for a while and tells me that the scanner or the camera is in use, try again later. Even when I go into EOS Utility it doesn't give me the option to download the photographs. It has happened before, and it really anoys me. I kind of need these photos now. Any ideas what to do?

Not a solution but have you tried to upload these pictures to a diff laptop/desktop or maybe try a friends, even an internet cafe? It will narrow down what's wrong.

I uploaded photos loads of times in school today, and it worked fine. And it has worked before on this laptop.. Its just that it loves to annoy me sometimes when i really could get on without it..

    Or try a card reader?

Do you have a card reader and try it that way instead?

    What OS are you using?

don't have a card reader i'm afraid.. should really get one though.. Can't say I know what OS is. Now it keeps blinking on the camera that its busy... But it has been doing that for a while. Can it have anything to do with that the battery is low on it? Even though it enough battery to have the camera turned on...

OS = operating system - Windows Vista, Windows XP, some variation of Linux...

And yeah, low battery may be causing slow read times of the card, which could be giving flakiness.

Cool - I'm just about to start prepping food for a dinner party, but will pop back to machine from time to time (or prop the laptop over the cooker, but I don't think I love you that much) - if the full battery doesn't help I'll take a look around to see what might help you.

Change the communication setting on the camera to pc connect?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 126 ✭✭Isar

    how do you do that?

Some memory cards have a protective switch on it to prevent accidental overwriting.
When switched to protective mode you cant read the memory card so this could be the case. Not sure if CF cards come with this switch but it's worth a look.

Alternatively, if the above don't work, AR is right. You have to narrow it down. Try read your memory card in a reader. They are only a tenner or so these days. Try a different memory card and take a few test shots and see if you can read that card.

    Good luck. :)

Is the software the one that came with the camera or are you using something else??

You should still be able to access the camera's memory via "my computer". If you can't it suggests a fault elsewhere.

I went to my computer, and went into the camera, and pressed start downloading images, and it says that the computer cannot detect the camera. Even though when i turn on the camera this little box pops up were the options is suppose to be, and it says that its connected, and the box is blank...
