Personally I'd go for an Eastern European city, much cheaper and should be nice round that time of year with loads of snow!! We've been to Prague, Budapest and Krakow in recent years and I'd recommend them all.

Never been to Lisbon so can't really comment. As far as booking through a travel agent goes, I definitely wouldn't, will be much cheaper booking yourself. Check out when the seat sales on Aerlingus and Ryanair are and then work around them if you can. I find yeego.com great for booking hotels. To give you some idea of costs, we stayed 5* this time last year in Krakow for four nights for €450 and the flights were less than €200.
