    Hi

i ordered an item from a website in the US, their website wasn't great so i couldn't log in and cancel the order. Sent them a mail later that day saying i wanted to cancel the order. No response.

Got a mail today saying the item had shipped, 2 hours later, got a mail from them saying, "Sorry the item shipped before we saw your email, can you just mark it return to sender when you get it, and we'll refund your paypal account.

Question: When i receive the item(small envelope), if i mark it return to sender, and stick it in the mailbox, will it get returned, or will On Post say we're not getting anything for this and bin it?? Never come across this before, so i'm not sure???

Return to Sender is a perfectly legitimate thing to write on something, and it should go back, as long as you don't open it. You could ring An Post to confirm though, as I'm not sure if it being international would effect it.

You'll have no Paypal protection in doing this though, as you'll have no proof it was sent back. Of course, the seller will also have no proof that you received it, which does afford you some protection.

If, after a week or two of you sending it back, you get no refund, start a Paypal dispute.

thanks for the reply jor el, i'll give an post a shout later.

On the paypal side, i didn't buy this off ebay, and someone said to me before you can only start a paypal dispute if the purchase is off ebay. maybe i'm way off here??

I don't think that's the case. I've certainly heard of people starting Paypal disputes for purchases on Dealextreme, so I it should work. You can start a dispute, and the seller can respond and refund your payment in the resolution centre.

You're not given any payment protection when it's outside eBay, but you've still got your credit cards protection if it comes to that anyway.

Ok, hopefully it won't get to the dispute stage. Its not a high value item, might try and offload it on adverts if there's any interest.
