12kW Stove, Granite mantlepiece?

    Hi all,

Have a wood/anything burning stove and I'm looking at putting a surround/mantlepiece up now. Trouble is, I want to put a black granite mantlepiece and am worried that the massive heat from the stove might crack it - has anyone ever come across this situation already somewhere and if so, will it crack?

I don't like cast iron ones and can't find anything in wood that I like.

    Much appreciated!

I'd talk to your stove supplier.
How hot do you expect it to get?
How close do you propose to put the granite beside / over the stove?

Fireplace surrounds are made of granite.
I suppose the granite could crack if its touching the stove or very close.
A stove should throw the majority of the heat out the front, not the top.

I would not think it would crack. Many open fires use black granite .

    12kw is hot though.......

get advise from a supplyer as RKQ suggested to be safe.

let us know how you get on
