work requesting passport???

    Hi, i work in a manufactoring company for about 10years now, i came into work this week and was asked to bring my passport in as they are doing a immigration audit and that they will making a copy of it, they say that in the uk the are required to do it but not yet in ireland. are they aloud to do this??? do i have to give it to them?? i dont like the idea of them having a copy of my passport.

    what do you guys think???

    I take that to mean they're requesting you do it, not demanding it. So yeah, they can ASK you to hop on one foot, but its probably nothing they can enforce on you, unless im gravely mistaken.

    well they are saying that it is soon to be a requirment in ireland

    It's already a requirement for companies that they not hire people who are not authorised to work in this country. They're breaking the law if they do. I'm not sure how else they could tell that you're authorised?
