Was wondering if anyone had any thought or experience on these runners trying to move away from over cushioned over supportive runners.

    thanks

The new IM World Champion is sponsored by them and runs in them. Interestingly he shaves off the lugs underneath :)

I know a few athletes sponsorsed by them. Those that didn't get injured by them felt that they weren't durable enough.

Well they look good, but I'd probably be more tempted by a pair of Nike Lunaracers

Those Newtons look very cool. Luna's seem class as well but I thought they were more for racing in rather than a training shoe to use all the time.

Personally I hate the feeling of big blocky trainers but Im really only a beginner and I over pronate so I dont have much choice.

I am very interested in Nike free

Has anybody tried them out? Id love to give them a go but would be worried about injuries (Im running in a Kayano at the moment).

thanks for responses, muddies the waters a bit more! currently retraining myself to be a mid to front foot striker after years of heel striking and completely ruined knees. Really just trying to cut through the sales spin and find out if these 'bare foot' style shoes actually make a difference.

Firstly were you fitted for the Kayanos? Or did someone just tell you they were great?

Nike frees provide no cushioning really and no support. Its like bare foot running. if you're not a technically good runner you'll probably get injured. Especially if you were fitted for kayanos.

Eh - just run barefoot? On grass. Only need to do a few hundred metres every so often.

There's a Lunar Trainer aswell, which is a bit more durable by the look of it.

I think these might be going on my Santa's List...

I ran in a pair of spikes yesterday felt great and so much more natural. But not sure if i'd manager more then 5-7 miles in them

Unfortunately I bought the Kayano's before I knew a whole lot about running so I wasnt fitted. They have served be well though so far.....but like I said I dont like a heavy shoe. Day to day I wear very light trainers (actually onitsuka tigers, a classic running shoe;)) so the Kayano's always feel big, chunky and akward to me.

Is that necessarily a bad thing?

I mean naturally your going to have to ease them in slowly. If you get them and jump into doing 40+ miles a week in them on concrete your asking for trouble. But if you take it slowly wont your muscles naturally adapt, compensate and ultimately get stronger(if it is like bare foot running)?

There has obviously been a lot of research on running shoes over the last few decades but how much of it is put forward by the likes of Adidas or Asics to cash in on the massive plodder/beginner/jogger market? Now Im fully aware that Nike Free could be just as much of a gimmick but my gut says that ultimately less shoe is the way to go and running shoes have gotten too
restrictive....of course my head is saying shut up and stick with your 10lb blocks with more cushioning than a childs adventure centre:pac:
