Ridiculous that you lose 50% of a grade for thinking other drivers are sometimes too slow!!

Joke of a test. You lose marks because other drivers drive too slow, (which they do on some national roads, overtaking lane of motorway*, etc)........:confused:

*Uh oh, shouldn't have opened than can of worms....

    72%.

Tbh, anyone who rates themselves as a highly skilled driver should lose points on that question. Those people are a hazard.

    now just for some info
i have hit a pedestrian (hard) not proud of it and not my fault (officially)
i put i always speed (a bit on main roads how else do you over take someone doing 90kmph)
and i only rated myself as somewhat skilled

I got 75%, that Q got me too - i certainly thought the guy driving at 40km/h in an 80 zone was going to slowly this morning, and the guy do 40 through the 50, 60 and 80 zone yesterday....

Its complete bollox as a test - as you quickly figure out how to do well, however it could be very good as an eye opener to folks about sh*t they do that not so good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,837 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Some of the questions are poor - i talk on the phone while driving, but only ever by using my bluetooth handsfree kit. I chage the radio/cd stuff, but by using the controls on my steering wheel. Surely there should be distinctions between doing what I do, and moving hands away from the steering wheel/looking at the radio and talking on your phone (non-hands free)

Talking on the phone is a MAJOR distraction I'm afraid - using hands free makes things better - but not doing it is best. I do it too btw - but you just have to realise it is decreasing your attention.

If you are trying to "figure it out" as you are answering then why are you taking the test?

No reasonably bright person could stop themselves from trying to 'figure it out' while answering, IMO.

Actually, since when was anything below 85% considered an A in the normal course of things....I know some modules in Universities have lower A limitis, but not in the general scheme of things.

Not true, apparently. You'd think rating your own abilities as 'highly skilled' would lead to a higher risk assessment, wouldn't you?

I tried to answer fairly. I guess it puts a good value on experience.

Of course you could give all the "right" answers, but what would be the point of that?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 7,943 Mod ✭✭✭✭Yakult

    68% and proud.

Not that Im even gonna go by that. I would rather be thrown into situations in a test or something, not something worded.

I wonder is there a bit of a random quality to the results? I did my very worst and got 9% - how did Biro manage to get it down to 5%?

I did it again and got 5% again. The trick is to say you have less than a year experience and drive less than 1 - 2 hours per week.

Ya, I got the same. The first time, answering relatively honestly I got 87%.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,537 ✭✭✭✭Cookie_Monster

    63%

In fairness though its not very accurate. Doesn't ask question like are you able to adjust your driving for conditions or how far ahead do you look etc.

(And I lost a few %age points cos you all drive too slow:D)

I said I speed at more than 18 mph over and I do it every time I drive, as well as thinking everyone else drives too slow when I'm working. :pac:

Technically being dead at the wheel in a carpark is safe.

Also is driving at 10 kph everywhere.

Safe is a stupid word to use vs. actual ability.

I know what you mean - many people who considers themselves 'highly skilled' are actually lacking the ability to evaluate their own actions critically, and are therefore overconfident and incapable of improving.

On the other hand, somebody who classes themselves as a highly skilled driver (in the sense of 'more competent than 90% of road users') because they have driven a million miles without incident is probably pretty safe.

As for the test, it's rubbish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,176 ✭✭✭✭L1011

"You scored a 75% (B)! Your driving level is: a little risk"

I always speed; think that contributed the most.

I don't consider myself a highly skilled driver. I've passed the IAM test, but I don't have the experience of driving anything other than car/car-derived vans nor enough of certain conditions (ice, snow, extreme speed) amongst other things to consider myself "skilled" let alone "highly skilled".
