Can dogs sense when someone is afraid of him/her?

I think they can but I'd say its mostly the persons body language that gives it away.

I'm fairly sure they can tell by smell.

    Both is correct.

Dogs are far better at reading our body language than we are and their sense of smell is about 100 times better.

They can sense and smell your fear almost before you realise that you're afraid yourself.

There's been a number of incidents where dogs have detected cancer in people.

Its happened enough that there is apparently serious consideration being given to using them as a diagnosis tool.

    Now that's clever !
