Looking for a spare battery for my new 450D I've come across a load of listings in eBay from Chinese sellers offering compatible batteries for buy it now prices of less than a euro with shipping of about a fiver...

    e.g. these guys: http://stores.ebay.ie/HKBargain888

So, I'm asking the obvious question - too good to be true? I thought that of dealextreme at first but was a very happy customer afterwards... Anyone ordered one of these / know of a good reason not to try them?

In fact, there seems to be loads of unbelievably cheap (when compared to pixmania, warehouse express etc.) accessories available on ebay from Hong Kong / China supplier. So far I've seen IR controllers, remote shutter releases, Hand grip straps, screen protectors, cases etc. shipped for under a tenner...

    Hey Sleepy.
I bought two of these batteries. I havn't got a chance to try them out yet but will charge them today and let you know. I bought them not for reliance but for emergency. I also got cases, remote shutter releases, extension tubes and they all work perfectly. Although that's not to say your ones would.

My last camera, the Sony DSC-H7, I bought two non-brand spare batteries for when I went on holidays and I used both of them and had absolutely no problems. I did look through reviews etc and it does appear that there are plenty of dud batteries been sold but replacements/refunds are always given.

I'm sure there are plenty of horror stories going to be told but the above is just from my experience so take from that what you will.

    Hope this helps :)

I suppose my main concern is with the batteries, I can't imagine a dodgy shutter release etc doing damage to the camera but if, for example a battery was too high a voltage or something I can see problems... over cautious?

I also bought two of them a while back. One of them lasts as long as the original battery but the other one I can get, absolute max, 20 shots out of it before it dies. I reckon it's pot luck what arrives.

So, I would imagine for the sake of a fiver you cant go wrong, even if one of them turns out to be a dud!

    Indeed!

I would imagine the only problem with these batteries is that they won't hold their charge rather than overcharging.

I use non-genuine Nikon batteries but get them from 7dayshop as they stand by them. The ones they sell last longer than the originals. They will be the same sort of price.

Bought a few batteries for the D300 off http://gadgetinfinity.com/home.php - have worked just as well as the genuine

[Thanks to whichever Mod changed the title for me]

It's one of those cases where the deals are almost too good to be true. I was talking with a colleague in work who's been my main source of advice since I decided to stop thinking about photography as a hobby and actually go get myself a dSLR and start taking some photos and the prices he paid for his initial gear are multiples of what it's costing me to get started. Seems there's incredible value out there if you're prepared to root around for it.

I bought spare batteries for my D70s, D80 and Canon 350D from various shops on EBAY and so far have had no problems.I use my cameras a lot and the batteries hold up as good as the originals. I also have some remote releases and battery grips from EBAY and find them great. The price difference between them and the original Nikon/Canon is huge.
