    Funny 'cos it's true.
    Worst Invention Ever
    http://garythoughts.blogspot.com/2005/01/worst-invention-ever.html
There have been so many developments over the years that have improved all our lives. The microwave, television, cell phones, whatever. However, one small addition to an invention from long ago might be ruining my life and I'm ready to admit to the world this morning that I have a problem.

Whoever created the snooze button on alarm clocks must be laughing in his grave right now. As a practical joke, some guy who worked with alarm clocks decided, hey, lets put a button on a clock which you can push as many times as you want, allow people to take short 7-9 minute naps and never wake up properly. Now my addiction started when I was very young. I remember as a kid wondering what the snooze button really did. So I was brave one morning at gave it a try, it was possibly the greatest discovery a 10 year old could ever had. And so the issues began. I would be too tired to wake up so I'd hit the button. Before you knew it, one snooze turned into three. Then three turned into 6. The snooze button is like coffee, you get hooked. Forget cigarettes or alcohol addictions, quitting those is for chumps. The snooze button addiction is unbearable and you can't get enough snoozes in. Eventually the problem gets so bad that you start anticipating your number of snoozes when you set your alarm the night before.

Then one day it hits you that you have set your alarm to go off 42 minutes before you actually get out of bed, which allows for around 6 snoozes. If you just woke up to the alarm without snoozing in the first place, you'd gain an extra 3 and a half hours of sleep a week. If the great grandson of the person who invented the snooze button is reading this, watch out because I will punch you in the face if I ever meet you. I am officially a snooze button junkie and no meetings or therapy can help. I know there's no turning back from here, I'm just hoping that I can save the children from developing the same snooze cravings that I have.

I set my alarm every night with the intention of getting up early and getting the bus into work but hit the snooze button about 5 times and end up driving in.

Falling back asleep after you hit the snooze button feels really good, only problem is that the alarm goes off again just as you get asleep.

I'm a really bad morning person.

I put my alarm clock on the other side of the room so I have to walk up and turn it off.

Although I sometimes just throw my pillow at it.

alarm set for 6.30, snooze every 5 mins, last snooze goes at 7.05..

worst thing is that after i press snooze i dont even try and go back to sleep.. i lye looking at my phone (alarm) waiting for it to go off again ?

i dont blame snooze buttons, i blame beds - so damn comfortable :(:o

none I don't need no stinkin alarm
Alarm on fone, fone across room, forcing me to actually get up to turn it off. Otherwise I'd never get up

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I do that. When I was living at home, I'd set my alarm and get my mother to hide it somewhere random in my room so that I'd actually have to find it, hoping that by that stage, I'd be fully awake.

Now that I'm out on my own, I just put my alarm clock in the shower so that when I get to it, I might as well just turn the shower on and be done with it.

Some day, I'm going to invest in one of those alarm clocks that makes you a cup of coffee when it goes off.

I can take up to 45 minutes to get out of bed in the morning. At least I know now i'm not a freak!

Oh, and i've tried putting the alarm on the other side of the room but I end up getting out of bed picking it up (I use my mobile), putting on my bedside locker and getting back into my lovely, warm, blissful bed.

none I get up with the alarm
remember a good while ago, it was a monday and i had the day off, so i set my alarm for 9am to make the most of it. I just kept hitting snooze till about 11.30am, so 15 snoozes in the one morning.

My alarm/snooze tone is 'Killer Tofu' by the Beets ( from the cartoon 'Doug' , though I'm sure all the 90's kids here know that). Anyway, despite the annoyance of hearing 'KILLER TOFU!' every ten minutes , I still postpone getting up for about an hour...yeah, I have no shame.

Get out of bed at 8.15am

none I get up with the alarm
I'm not a morning person, I get out of bed at the last possible minute (or sometimes well after it). I sometimes don't even bother with the snooze, I wake up, say an hour before I have to be in college and do the math: "Sure I don't really need a shower do I, I'll only be manky again, it's pointless. Breakfast is crap who needs it? Make-up..PAH! I brushed my hair the other day there...ya I only need ten minutes" and reset the alarm. Then end up looking like a pikey and having a rumbling tum all day :( totally worth it though.
The worst thing when you've been hitting snooze for the past half hour is when it goes off and you think "Right, I'm definitely getting up now, no need to hit snooze again, I'll just turn the alarm off there..." and then you wake up three quarters of an hour later and you're in trouble.

four or five, I need an hour to wake up
Getting up in the morning is a nightmare.

I want an alarm clock that isn't for sale anywhere. Somebody came up with the idea and that was it. Its call sfara alarm clock (i think).

Its hangs from the ceiling (above your bed) from a cord. When setting the alarm you draw it down to easy reach. Everytime you press snooze it draws up, pretty much forcing you to get up and stand on your bed to turn it off.

I just sleep, missus uses the snooze button so much and crap music always comes on with with the alarm. -_-

In the past I used the snooze shamelessly, now I've ditched the alarm, and I'm pushing flexi time to its limits.

one or two if I'm having a bad hair day
If I have time I'll probably press the snooze button once. If not then I'll get up when the alarm goes off. I'm not too bad in the morning.

I just actually jump out of bed, usually wakes me up.

I might dig up the link later but you can get these wristwatch alarms that measure your pulse and biorythms or something and only wake you up when you are naturally getting near awake and not in the middle of deep sleep or REM or something like that

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,148 ✭✭✭✭KnifeWRENCH

I can proudly say that I have never used the Snooze button!
I use the alarm on my phone. When it goes off, I just turn it off and roll back to sleep.

The end result is lots of sleep and lots of college missed. And I wouldn't have it any other way! :)

My new phone has some cheerful corn-flakes ad jingle that I ****ing hate. I keep meaning to record the harsh beep from my old phone because it was the only thing that could get my up. Unfortunately I may have develeoped an allergic reaction to it, so i've been putting it off. Seriously, if I heard the same tone on the tv or someplace I'd almost feel sick.

Used to be about 3 or so until I realised that if I snooze less I get to sleep longer. Now one or two.
