Hi guys! I'm on the hunt for an mp3 player for my Mum (Christmas prezzie from my Dad - yeah, ye know the way it goes!!!) It needs to be seriously simple to navigate round and use :o. No huge memory required - I'd say 4G/8G, she really just wants to have all her music in one place. Would the ipod be the most simple to use or has anyone any other suggestion?

Oh yeah the iPod would definitely be the most accessible for, ahem, the folks generation. :D

In terms of the uncomplicated interface alone would be ideal for her I'd say.

Anything by sony....they make the most user friendly players around at the moment. I got one (a Sony S610) for my Mum last xmas, and she's a total technophobe but has had no problem using it.

My mother uses a Samsung flash player, which she claims is ridiculously easy to navigate! It's the Yp-k3.

To be honest I think my Sony is easier though. It kinda helps that they have a standardish looking play and stop button on some of the newer ones. Most people can recognise the symbols easily. Personally i think iPods are pretty difficult to use, that bloody wheel thing is a nightmare (but maybe it's just me :o)

Not just you, I got a nano a couple of weeks ago....dear jeasus how fiddly and annoying the click wheel can be, especially when it comes to choosing things from the menus or changing volume...

Okay Guys. I'm gonna do a bit more looking and see if I can physically get my hands on a Sony to see what they're like and then decide. Thanks a mill for the info!!
Also, in prep for Christmas morning when my Mum says "Oh can I listen to some music now!!!!!!" is it possible for me to have some saved onto a memory stick, copy to music library, plug her new player in and Bob's your uncle, instant syching or will I be faced with copying each of her cds one by one there and then?? If I go for ipod will itunes let me copy from the existing library? I really appreciate all the help - if only she knew! :D

Yup, you can do that with both (rip songs now and have them ready to go). I'd even advise that you load the music on before hand/give the unit you buy a bit of a charge up.

Which ever one you pick, make sure you rip to MP3 (not wma, not aac), it's the universal format and works with everything.
