    Evening,

I'm currently looking into changing my fireplace or at least the surround

I have a standard 16" gas fire (inset basket fire) within a standard 54" fireplace..rose mahogany surround (yuck) and tiled inset)

I've been advised that gas fires are very inefficient..can anyone give me guidance as to

alternatives to gas..........are wood burning stoves suitable for a living room?

gas fires...is it worth the money to pay for a convector box type fire?

    Thanks

    Ladybird

OPen gas fires are probably about 40% effieciecy a glass fronted convection can be up to 75/78% are you on nat gas or LPG?
Solid fuel is cheaper to run but ensure the fireplace can take it and that you are prepared for carrying fuel in and ash out.
