So, its christmas time again, and I'm looking for a good DVD to buy my dad. He enjoys thrillers along the lines of Gone, Baby Gone and Vantage Point. He isn't one for much violence/profanities in movies though.

If anyone has any good recommendations let me know :)

    Thrillers you say

Ok not all of the below would be thrillers per se but compelling viewing all the same.

    The Insider
    Lantana
    Tell No One*
    Downfall*
    The Lives of Others*

I'll come up with more tomorrow as others on here will.

    *subtitled

try Mystic River. it's from the same writer as Gone Baby Gone. The classics like The Usual Suspects can never be overlooked

On the Waterfront is a good show.

On the Waterfront is a good show.

Is that the one with Marlon Brando? If so, absolutely fantastic movie. Watched it in English class once of all places. Loved it, so id definitely recommend it.

That is, of course, if it is that film. Name sounds familiar so I think it is.

Definitely some fantasic recommendations made so far, I'd definitely second Tell No One (that is, if you da doesn't mind reading subtitles).

One I haven't seen recommended yet is Narc. Quite a terrific film indeed.

Indiana Jones trilogy. (Excluding the new one because it was terrible)

if you like tense, gritty, violent and exciting action adventures these are not to be missed. classics :D

The Edukators is another good one, German film.

I had never even heard of Tell No One, I must watch it because I read the book and it was brilliant. Had no idea there was a movie of it, and a French one, very odd?
