i need to cut laminate counter tops. they are 38mm thick and 60cm wide. i need to rent a saw to do this, which saw type would do this job perfectly?
i also need to cut a hole for the sink...

jigsaw will do the job-get one with a laminate
cutting blade...the cutting action is on the downward stroke
    which prevents chipping and splinters.

i have a jigsaw but i dont find it accurate enough for a cut like this unfortunately. i think a circular saw would be more accurate?

circular saw will do the job-as long as
    all the cuts are straight.

A circular saw will do the job perfectly. It does require skill and practice though.

You also need to cut the worktop upside down.

if you cut from the top, the blade will lift and chip the laminate.

for the tap holes. buy a cheap hole saw kit in lidl. I got one for work. They are fine for the odd job and handy to have in the van.

and a jigsaw for the sink.
