I've been posting in the Better Body Challenge thread for a while now, and it's had me thinking about my fitness a lot more than I would have done this time last year.

I'm planning on running a charity mile on Christmas morning with my younger brother (an athletic machine) and my uncle (an experienced triathlon competitor). This will be our third year running together, and in each of the last two years I've been in poor condition. As such I've finished the mile in about 8 minutes, at least 90 seconds behind the two of them. Even though it's only a short run for charity, I'd like to finish the run in a time much closer to 6 minutes than 8.

I've been training regularly for various team sports (at least two sessions per week) up until last week. My problem now is that I won't have this training structure again until the end of January.

    Thanks.
So, can anybody recommend a simple fitness plan that might give me a good chance on Christamas morning, and that might keep me in fairly good shape for the next 7 weeks? I will not have regular access to a gym, but cycling and swimming may be possible. Obviously I'll have to regulate my own diet (I'm used to polishing off a tin of Roses over the Xmas holidays, so that'll have to go anyway).

    Just Run.

Get a nice pair of comfortable runners, and run. As much as you can find time for. Good rule of thumb though, if you're sore the day after a run, dont run that day. Wait til the next.

    And don't forget to stretch.
