Buying lenses online

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering how everyone has gotten on with ordering their lenses online? Are most prescriptions and types easily available?

I can't remember for the life of me what the 2 irish sites are that people have suggested before, if anyone knows can you let me know please? Sick of being ripped off by Specsavers!

I buy 6 months at a time from here. Very good rates and lots of choice.

Got six months supply of my monthly disposables from yourlenses recently - ordered on a Friday afternoon and delivered on Tuesday. No hesitation in recommending them. They are based in Sweden.

You will be liable for import duty but the prices are so much lower then specsavers that they still win on price.

I've been thinking about buying my next set of lenses online, although I've totally forgotten what I used to pay in Specsavers, I believe it was around E60 for three month supply including solution, does that sound right ?

Anyway, I use the standard monthly disposable lenses, but I've thrown out the box. I know my power but I'm not sure on the other measurements. I found that the real brand for the Specsavers ones are Coopervision Frequency 55, anyone else switched to these from the Specsavers standard lenses ?

I was sure the BC was 8.6 but apparently Frequency 55 lens is only available in 8.4 and 8.7
EDIT:
The Specsavers site offers them in 8.6, 8.8 and 8.9, while the other sites I've found selling them as Frequency 55 offer only 8.4, 8.7 and 8.9

And my last question is it important what solution I use with these lenses since I'm not using the specsavers stuff they used to give me ?

I have been thinking of buying contacts online as vision express are so difficult ot deal with however, all i have is my prescription with sph, cyl and axis measurments. do i need to get extra info before i can order

has anybody tried the website www.lensbase.ie . They seem to be from the UK.

How can you be sure that the lenses you get are genuine?

You could ask the same question of any online supplier tbh. I have bought solutions from lensbase and have had no problems with the product or the supplier.

I am looking at yourlenses at themoment, there wouldnt be any problem switching from specsavers dailies to acuvue dailies right? I know this is probably a bit of a stupid question.

Specsavers dailies are the same as focus dailies - identical except for the box! I use www.discountcontactlenses.com which I find are the cheapest (about 110 including shipping for 180 pairs). I have also used yourlenses and found them great too.

Would acuvue be a better brand to go with though?

Sorry I was just looking at your lenses and its around 40 euro for a months supply of focus dailies, its cheaper in specsavers! So what is the cheapest site, I was looking at discountlenses but theyre US based and Im not sure how much shipping is and delivery time, any ideas?

Are just lenses good? Shipping time?

Used acuvue when the daily lenses first came out. They were better quality but became far too expensive for more regular use - not worth it in my opinion.

Discountcontactlenses are good for shipping. Just checked my bill and my lenses were 94euro for 180 pairs, shipping to ireland was 10.95euro and i got them in under a week (it says 2-4wks on their site but have ordered twice and have had them in less than 1 wk :cool:, either they just say that to cover their asses or i got lucky twice!).

Haven't used just lenses before so I can't help you there...

I was thinking of buying a few of these lenses from the internet as they appear to be cheaper but how can I be certain that they are genuine and of the same quality as the ones I normally get from the optician..

would love a little help here!! i want to start ordering my contacts online but have NO idea what i need and how i know which lenses i should use. i currently use specsavers monthly disposables.

what details do i need to know...and will it all be on the side of my current pack of lenses?

Order the ones you wear usually.
An optician needs to prescribe them for you so that they are correct,then use the prescription to order online.

Do these online sites check with your optician what your prescription is and when u last had your eyes checked ?

yourlenses is definitely worth giving a go. so many types of lenses and they're super reliable. the bausch and lombe lenses are the best i find.

no, but the site i use has a box for ticking that says something to the effect of "i acknowledge that i have a prescription from a registered optometrist" or something

Ah grand cos getlenses.ie actually ring up your optician and check when u last had your eyes tested.

I've used "yourlenses.ie" for ordering contacts 4 or 5 times over the last couple of years and never had any problem with them. I always received my order in about 5 working days.
This time I have though - I ordered my usual type and amount of lenses 20 days ago (13 working days), but I still haven't received them yet. Two emails to their customer support, but no reply, not even an auto acknowledgement mail. I called their phoneline, but i get a message telling me the opening hours (8am - 4pm) and to call back during these hours - but I have been calling them within these hours, taking account of time difference (offices are in Sweden). This has made me a little nervous, and was wondering if anyone has ever tried contacting customer support on this website and what was their experience?

+1, ordered lenses on a Wednesday evening - delivered to my door the following Tuesday (came from Ohio!). Postage cost is very reasonable considering.

Are there no import charges payable because the lenses are coming from the states?

Just to let you know some sites will let you buy in sterling and will deliver to Ireland (getlenses said they will allow it). Huge savings to be made - €50 euro on acuvue moist for 90 pairs. When you look at the difference in prices between specsavers.ie and specsavers.co.uk you can see just how much they are making from irish customers. I emailed specsavers but they wont let me buy in sterling. Havn't looked at buying from the US as you may get done for tax and delivery time may be longer.

some do, some don't by the sounds of it...i used to use getlenses.com before, they checked to make sure the prescription was less than a year old....

customs will stop your package, send u a bill by snail mail, when u pay they release the package...has to be over a certain value i think, not sure what it is though...

Common sense should obviously prevail in terms of check ups. As has been said on here before the lenses you buy online should be the same as those that are prescribed for you by an optician.

Some online companies such as yourlenses only require you to confirm your prescription.
