if I caught the headline correctly this morning central gov. borrowing will be 6% this year.

This is madness , we are at the start of a 10+/- year recession, so projecting this forward we will have a high % of homeowners with negetive equity, gov borrowing above 100%, a bankrupt banking system, and pension schemes that are worthless. Meanwhile I have seen nothing other then its business as usual at the various vampiresque organisations that proliferate here.

Its time to put a gun to the heads of the civil service/heath service etc. to breakup the cushy little monoplies / work practices and T&C that they all enjoy

Unfortunately the weak and cowardly government we have at the minute will never stand up and take the necessary action. Fine Gael are only talking about a pay "freeze" in the public sector. Not good enough, folks. Not by a long shot.

was listening to Mary Hanifan on the RTE 1pm news disussing the state of defined benefit schemes, I dont know which was worse, expecting the gov. to do something about it which obviously they cant or listening to her saying that the market will come back and is only concerned about people coming up to retirement, that puts her up there with bertie telling everyone not to worry about the property market a few years back , does anyone actually still listen to these clowns?

Some commentators reckon it will be 9% next year, 3 times what the EU allow. Thats 15bn in deficit next year alone to pay for the public sector.
