It is frustrating allright Nacho, but the trend of weather so far this winter (still only 3 days old) is very encouraging. The ability of the cold to dig in so early this year certainly bodes well for the remaining three months of the season. The cold of the north is impressive and in just two weeks we should see the continent freeze as well. When that happens we will have plenty of potential. A sacndy high IMHO looks very very possible for the latter third of December with a re-run of Christmas 95 on the cards... watch this space.

Still coming down in Tallaght, if the clouds clear during the night (doubtfull) and the temp drops again, could get very icey.

Pleasant enough here, fair and breezy with a current temp of 5.8°C
Frost unlikely tonight due to the wind. No snow on the mountains that I can see which is a shame. Anyone with a view of the mighty Lug, is there anything left on it?

I'm in D8 at the moment and we've had a moderate shower. If temps are going to be as cold as forecast, would there be a very major risk of seriously icy roads later on??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,343 ✭✭✭arctictree

Cold and showery here. 5.6c here ATM

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 18,240 Mod ✭✭✭✭DOCARCH

    .......................tumbleweed rolling through.........................:D

(post snow threat - UK getting snow depression???)

2.8c here atm. Max. today of 6.6c.

According to forecast, a very cold night ahead and it looks like some people may gat another ice day tomorrow.

If you can't have snow - frost and fog is pretty good winter weather imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,489 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

Despite that theres about 6 octas of low stratus in the sky the current temp is 0.6°C and falling slowly. Pretty frosty out, might just about make an air frost before sun up.

    Cold - a bit!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

Was -2 when i hopped into the car today, black ice everywhere, had a rugby match but was called off because the pitch was frozen solid.
Thawed off, and then froze again in a matter of minutes.
    Crazy stuff.

Ice starting to melt away now, sun shining bright and clear skies.

It's going to be seriously icy out in a few hours time!!! Northwood in Santry was like an ice rink right upto lunchtime today. Will be the same tonight. Already down to 2c at Dublin airport at 4pm

And temp at Dublin airport is down to 0c as of 17:00. Was about 5c at the same time yesterday - not a night to be driving. And I'm stuck in work till god knows when!!!

Just wondering, with temperatures dropping so quickly and with pressure also rising and also that the winds are virtually calm, is there a much higher risk of (freezing) fog tonight?

Its definately a much higher risk than last night for this part of the country. Ild say its almost a certainty. :)

    Currently 0.6C

    -1.0c here now.

The damp/wet on the ground from yesterdays showers never got a chance to dry out today - just back from the shops and you can the ice on the roads already.
