Tomorrow will be Dec 1st which means we have 1 month to go before New Year resolution time.

Did you make fitness goals back in January of 2008?

If yes: did you meet them?
    • Cleaned up your diet?
    • Picked up a new sport?
    • Joined a team?
    • Broke a 10km pb?
    • Lost fat?
    • Gained muscle?

If no: what goals are you setting for 2009?

Now is the time to put in that extra bit. Train harder for the next few weeks and you can go into the xmas break safe in the knowledge that you can splurge that bit more.

Maybe your goals from 2008 will be someone elses' for 2009.

I set a few goals, met some of them, failed some of them - tracked in my log.

My main problem is consistency at the moment it seems, some of it is unavoidable due to work circumstances but in other cases its down to me being inconsistent, particularly about my eating.

I'm setting big goals for 2009, I may not reach them but I want to get as close to them as possible -

    Lifting
    Bench 1.25 x BW
    Squat 1.50 x BW
    Deadlift 2.00 x BW

    Running
Total Distance 20KM at Best Pace

    Body Fat
Loose the bitch tits and the gut. I think ill need to get my gut measurement down to about 94/95 cm (maybe less) to do this. Its about 101 cm at the moment.

    Additional Goal
I intend on signing myself and my brother up for Tough Guy 2010 as soon as the entry forms are made available as motivation.

Was there a 2008 goals thread that anyone can remember?? I'm pretty sure I posted on one on T-nation, but I thought there was one here too.

    Anyway, my goal's 1800lb/817.5kg at 110kg.

Finally on target to crack a goal I had set for the year previous (:o) and hopefully will go on to achieve what I've been aiming for for the past 3 years before X-mas '09, should be fun.

My only goal from 07 was to get back in the gym and stay there!
For 2008 i want to gain half a stone lean and get to about 12% bodyfat!
Want to bench 100kg before the end of the year currently at 75 after 9 months!
Currently at 110 deadlift would like to get to double bodyweight on that one probably a huge ask but will give it a shot!
Would also like to get past my 95 kg sqaut maybe up to 125 kgs!
Overall do just stay injury free and interested.

    Here's what I said I wanted to do on 31/12/2007;
    1) GET FAT
Since everyone seems to be determined to lose weight, I want to put some on. This is the look I'm going for http://content.answers.com/main/cont.../0/03/Ab83.jpg

Success. 108kg on Sunday morning. Not Glenn Ross fat, but still healthily obease.
    Other than that...

    2) Open with a national record on the bench, European record on my second attempt, and then for the third take the 100kg Junior Bench World Record

While not done in an IDFPA comp, I did it in July. Opened with 180kg (IDFPA national record) and finished with 190kg (which woulda been a WDFPF world record)
    3) 700+kg total (maybe 700 in June and 700+ in November if all goes to plan)

EA-SY!! 707.5kg in July. Woulda been good for mid to high 7's last month if I got to compete.
    4) Get ripped at some point in the year. Aiming for single digit bodyfat %, which probably means around 90kg (the plan is to diet down after the national champs. If all goes well I'll hit 90ish kg in 10 weeks, and yes I will be doing cardio!! So around the first week of April I'll be there I hope.) After that it's a 10 week build up to the European champs. This goal is dependant on how much strength the weight loss causes, if I can at least maintain my strength then I'll probably stay the course.

EPIC fail. I got to about 15% bodyfat and realised it was my last year as a junior next year and I needed to do something big, so I started moving up! I'll try to add as much as possible and still be able to compete at 110kg over next year, and then once my last comp as a junior is out of the way in Vegas in Nov. '09 I'll be going down to single digit bodyfat and hopefully weighing 95-98kg. That's more of a goal for early '10 I guess.

    Some definite goals for '09;

The milestone in March/April. Don't want to broadcast what it is, but I promise you it'll be special. Suffice to say it'll be biggest junior total ever put up in the country.

    Later in the year;

    700lb/317.5kg squat in Vegas.
    500lb/227.5kg bench in Vegas.
    635-650lb/287.5kg-295kg deadlift in Vegas.

All adding to an 1800lb/817.5kg total as a junior, and drug free.

I was only thinking that you hadn't told me your weight in a very long time, now I know the reason!! :D:D I still remember you telling me that you were going to stay at 90kg until you moved to the open! Lolz

Mixed year for me when looking back on my '08 goals- still haven't managed to swim 750m, although the fact that I wasn't in a pool (even once!) definitely didn't help.

Haven't gotten much heavier, but am steady at 72kg. I am a lot stronger- 5 x 5 squat up to 110kg, 5 x 5 dead up to 110 kg (can still go higher, I reckon) and 5 x 5 bench up to 72.5 kg.

Didn't take pics or measurements which is a big regret, because even though my weight has been fairly constant, people I don't see day-to-day have noticed a big difference.

Didn't do any racing either, and my bike hardly came out of the shed at all, but I think that contributed to me working harder in the gym.

It wasn't on my list of goals at the start of the year, but getting on Gladiators became a goal, and I failed in my application, so that could be another one for 2009, so Boss, watch out!!

    Bench BW for reps.
    Squat 1.5 BW for reps.
    Deadlift 1.5-2 BW for reps.

heh, I fail at keeping resolutions :D

Didn't get my 400kg total but the total I set at the Nationals in March (or was it Feb?) was a new WR so happy days.

And instead of moving to the stage I just moved to another kind of platform, but I see big things happening in the future with that, one of the best moves I've made in a long time.

Also lost my lifting mojo in mid-2008 but successful rediscovered it, so all in all an eventful year. Here's to 2009 bringing in some big numbers :)

G'em- does that 400kg goal refer to combined totals of squat, deadlift and bench press?

    Ta

Excellent - saves me a few minutes typing them from the handwritten goals on the fridge door :pac:

    Progress this year in red

    Strength
    Bench Press 100kg ... current 80kg max 1 rep

1 rep max 87.5kg a month or two ago. Probably going to end around 90kg or 92.5kg for a 1 rep max in the next few weeks when I try it again. Barely missing 75kg on 5x5... got to 21 of 25 reps.

Squat 100kg ... current 80kg max 1 rep.. with extra bad form

Sorted out my squat form, it is now my favourite lift. 1 rep max was 105kg a few weeks ago, that may go up to about 115kg by year end. 5x5 sucess last week at 90kg.

    Deadlift 150kg ... current 115kg max 1 rep

Haven't checked 1 rep max for a while, but it was 125kg. I'd guesstimate 135kg will go by year end. 5x5 up to 120kg.

Cardio --> I retired opted out of triathloning around August and didn't train much for the ones I did participate in. Don't have the interest
Run 10km in 45mins --> cannot remember really... a couple of sub 50's on the treadmill I think
    Run 5km in 22mins --> again, not sure... a few around 22 / 23 mins
Swim 750 metres in sub 15 mins, all front crawl ... currently it takes me about 20 mins alternating front crawl and breast stroke every 100 metres --> fail...

    Weight
Maintain approx 70kg ... whilst getting stronger and faster as outlined above through weights and triathlon training
Get to single digit bodyfat ... not sure what it is now, perhaps 12 - 14%

Bodyweight now = 77kg. Eating more, cardio less, heavy weights. Happier with my body shape now.

    Triathlon Targets
Complete an Olympic distance triathlon in sub 2 hrs 45 mins ... last year I managed 3 hrs 3 mins for the London one --> Fail
Complete a Sprint distance triathlon in sub 1 hr 22 mins ... best so far is around 1 hr 26 mins --> Fail

Next year? Probably something like this:

    Squat: 150kg
    Deadlift: 170kg
    Bench: 110kg
    Pull Ups: bw x20

... however I'll think about them more after going through my 1 rep max tests before this year end.

If I hit this years strength targets I may try and maintain that strength whilst working on my running again.

Got to make it as a gladiator contendor after messing up the medicine ball throw & croc crawl this year. Justdoit, I'll see you on the travelator :pac:

edit - oh and power clean & press bodyweight (which will be somewhere between 75 and 80kg max)
