The roads looked much clearer today, so I went out for a quick fast spin.

I managed fine yesterday, so what could possibly go wrong?

Ten minutes in, I came off at a mini roundabout.

Miraculously my Assos tights were uninjured, but I sustained terminal damage to my lightweight rain jacket and put small holes in my windproof jacket, right glove and saddle.

Less expensively, I grazed a couple of places (the largest being about 4 inches square).

I have similar but a lot worse than that on my hip from yesterday's encounter. Badly bruised and swollen too. Can't sleep on my right side as a result. Could have been a lot worse, as the broken bones in the "Saturday Spin" thread details.

Was thinking of going out in the afternoon but not so sure now :) It does look less frosty than yesterday.

Now where did I put my world champion striped gauze...

Wimp list status: the wimp list has been updated to reflect this weekend misfortunes and I will be dismissing any new entry until the 1st of february 2009.

    I hope you're ok.

One thing I didn't get yesterday was road rash. Body is all aching and bruised today though. Probably all boardsie will show off limping or skipping on the boards xmas drinks.

Turbo is safer and I will be turbo-ing until i get better, maybe you should all do that too ...

I think I'll stick with off-road up 3rock tonight and crawl along on roads to get there

Indeed - I was more irritated by the expensive clothing damage than the road rash.

This was why I started this thread - that was exactly my thinking this morning. Whereas yesterday I was mincing around, brake testing every couple of minutes, today I thought "no frost today - looks fine" and zoomed off....to an accident.

I was out (walking) around Mullingar this afternoon, and there were still lethal patches of icy footpath. These mixed conditions are really hard to deal with.

This is the first icy crash I've had on a bike. One moment I was up, then I was down. Absolutely nothing I could do so save it (much as you all described yesterday). Not very confidence inspiring.

    Sorry
my attempt at humour does not seem to have worked.

Btw I fell off my MTB today and have a large haematoma on my right thigh-
I will be limping for a week, off the bike for 2-3.

have a laugh at my expense, I dont mind.

Nice. Is a haematoma the same as a bruise? Or is it in the muscle?

Subdermal Haematoma is just a bruise no?

A haematoma is a blood clot usually caused by a large bleed into the tissues.
Bruises tend to be caused by damage to smaller vessels with small amounts of blood and tend to be confined to the skin and subcutaneous tissues. You dont have a large organised clot.

The pic in this is something like my injury.

Walking around Mullingar is unadvisable at any time of year:D
