    Hi guys,
I know nothing of bikes for help would be apreacitated.
Apart from the obvious question (see thread name) I'm also looking for a bit of advice. Friend cycles ALOT, not for sport or anything but as a mode of transport around dublin and loves it.

I recently left her Dawes (model number unknow), bout 4 years old bike into get reapired. Coming from the reapir although I got the gears etc sorted to last for the next month or so Ive been told and even from looking at it I can see that it needs a serious overhaul.

It was also mentioned that looking at getting a new bike would also be advised. Going on that and seeing as xmas is coming up I'm looking for
    1) Are there Dawes resellers here in Ireland, preferabley Dublin?
    2) Cost of certain bike (rough guide price)? Its a racer / road bike, thats all I can really tell you, v light!
    3) Anyone know when ordering (if there are reseller) of how long you would be looking at for delivery etc?

Sorry I can't give much more info but anyones opinions, ideas or pointers would be HUGHELY appreciated.

    Rattlehead

Joe Daly's in Dundrum are a very good shop and sell Dawes. By road bike do you mean dropped handlebars, or are they straight?

Eurocycles had a good selection of Dawes the last time I was in their Crumlin shop.

RogerB has a Dawes Audax Supreme which he loves. He got it on-line somewhere.

Oh and prices range for these kinda bikes? I want to have an idea of price before I go in and faint in the shop :p

That is a Dawes Giro, the 300 I think. I think they start at around €500 for one with STI gears (e.g. gear shifts on the brake levers rather than the frame.)

Yeah I think it is, I dont nessecerily need that model it was just the 1st one I saw on that site with the bendy handles (bendy handles Im sure is the professional term for it :p)

EDIT: Hmmm just found a Giro 300 with delivery form the UK for €440, I suppose thats not too bad?? Now I need to sneak measurements of her bike :)

Ok last questions guys I promise and then you all get a boards beer!
    Dawes Giro 300
I got a good look at her bike earlier and this is the updated version of hers so YAY defo going for this one, only question is it comes in 48, 53, 58cm frame, now how is this measured? from point a to point b

I was able to stand beside it and measure where the top of the frame (not handles the actualy main frame) goes on my outside leg.... so should I just be able to measure that and go from there?

Once again lads thanks for all your input.

Noooo! Stay away from cycleogical, especially if you don't know what drops are :)

    Go to Joe Daly's.

I dont know if you already bought it/put a deposit on or whatever, but a company called centro (http://www.centro.ie/) import and distribute dawes. While you may not be able to buy from them, they may be able to tell you which shops they sell to.

EDIT: Here is a list of their dealers in Dublin http://www.centro.ie/?mode=Dealer&County=Dublin

Hehe, you can never hide! I just was eavesdropping a little while waiting for Dave to finish with you and saw ya looking at the Dawes and mentioning a lady -I was going to say hello, but was pushed for time (the chiropractor upstairs was waiting for me!)

    Am I missing something here?
This looks to good to be true. 360 euro while any shop I walk into I'm being quoted 550 +
Doesnt matter I see the difference is in the gears and some of the smaller components

It's mostly cos ordering online is always (well, almost always) cheaper than buying in a shop here!

Its interesting that they have all ireland dealer status for some products. Whats even more interesting that whilst doing this NI dealers sell at UK prices whereas ones down south are more expensive....... wonder who takes the margin cut?

I too have been considering buying a Dawes (Audax probably), I notice none of the centro dealers with online shops quote prices for Dawes bikes. So I've never been able to get a handle on the Irish prices for Dawes. Centro seem to distribute a lot of brands - I doubt all their dealers stock Dawes - Could be wrong.
