Every once in awhile I will have problems with my keyboard, to where it requires a heavier touch to get them to work. This is rare, but happened today, and also about a month ago. They are kept very clean, and there is no dust inside the machine. It is not an old laptop either, so I doubt it's wear. Had this problem today, and I first rebooted, and the problem continued after. I then shut down completely, unplugged the laptop from the power outlet, and then pulled and reinstalled the battery. Rebooted and now the keyboard is working normally. Any ideas why this condition might be occurring?

    Specs: Toshiba Satellite, Centrino Duo 1.67 & 1.66, FBS 667, 2G memory, Vista Ultimate 32 bit, 250 HDD (150 & 100).

I'd say it's just a sticky keyboard. It was probably just a coincidence that it cleared itself when you removed the battery. Maybe removing the battery dislodged some dirt.
Get your self a can of compressed air and blow in around the keys. It could clear the problem or move the dirt to another part of the keyboard. Failing that maybe remove the keyboard and give it a good shake.

It's not dirty at all. Completely free of dust and dirt inside and out.

check it again, even remove the keyboard just to be sure. Having to press down hard to make a key work is normally dirt. If it's not that i'd say you got a faulty keyboard.

    Just my opinion.

Have you taken EVERY single key off to make sure? If not then it could easily be dirt blocking your keys slightly.

Be very careful taking keys off. The clips that hold them in place are easily broken.
