I was trying my best to install a lidl sat system all day today.

I kept trying to aim the dish at Astra 2 but signal didn't go above 14% quality and no channels.

Any tips on getting it right?

The lidl dishes need to pointed alot lower to the ground than normal say sky dishes and also play about with the skew of the LNB which basically means that you twist the lnb from left to right generally you want the cable coming of the lnb at about 4 - 5 if you were looking at a clock.

Does the elevation washer have to be on the dot?

No, because the elevation markings aren't very accurate to begin with. However, you should try to get as close as possible until you find the satellite, and then optimise the elevation once you've got a signal lock.
