    hey eve.
there is a tae kwon do club that does regular classes in bray on a friday night in st kilians school sports hall and also in newtown mount kennedy community hall on tuesdays and thursday also.
there rates are really good its 5 euro per class and i think to start its 1.5 hrs long
they do have a website its eastcoasttkd.org
so give them a ring or just go up 2 speak with the instructors.
    classes start @7-7.30

There is a general rule here in the forum about pimping your own club. In the past the mods agreed that it was ok to mention your own club as long as you contributed to the forum regularly.

WTKDNo1 - your whole two posts are advertising your club. NOTE the forum is not an advertising forum. Please go to www.adverts.ie

    Same applies for J-Mak.

Original poster, try be more specific with what you're looking for as the term self defence takes in the entire spectrum of martial arts and more.

hmmmm.... I have some issues with that.

Jon.. ever read..http://www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/ I'm always banging on about it but I think it's so damn good and blows a lot of "martial art = self-defence" out of the water. Read it and make it a sticky would you? You may need all day but its well well worth it. :)

If it's self defence rather than a sports-orientated martial art that you want, then I'd reccomend Krav Maga.

But I've just done a google search, and can't see any regular classes in Dublin, just seminars.

You might have more luck than me, though.

Have to agree www,nononsenseselfdefence.com is a great website, and I like alot of Marc Mac Young material. I was communicating with him last year, trying to bring him over to Ireland to do a workshop, but with one thing or another we just couldnt put it on, due to other commitments. I hope we can maybe have better success in 2009 and get him over. He has a weird sense of humour:D but come across really well with no ego. I would like to meet him some day.

I do not mean to upset anyone, but the question was about where he could learn self-defence, We do teach self-defence and we are only about 20% Sport, So I was not just advertising,I was helping someone who wants to know where he can learn self-defence.
