Oh how I felt the irony tonight. A show that promotes all that is great or should be great about THE CAR, caused much chaos in Ballsbridge today. Rush hour traffic was hugely affected with massive volumes and road closures. Best of all, there was no "on site" parking for this event. How on earth did it get planning permission? This is not a show that appeals to cyclists or public transport dependent people. (car demons only please) You should have seen the state of the place tonight. Cars coming from everywhere with nowhere to go. Bravo to all involved. You couldn't get laid in a brothel.

I wasn't attending, just trying to access the place for work related stuff. Im glad I won't be near it tomorrow.

Aye, there's always a paid carpark at the RDS, isn't there?

AFAIK there are a lot of outdoor stunts, exibitions etc. associated with the show which utilise the space available (but I'm open to correction).

    From www.topgearlive.ie

TOP GEAR LIVE IS A NO PARKING EVENT

    Important Travel Restrictions

Customers Traveling by DART from the North side of Dublin on Sat & Sun
Iarnród Éireann advises customers that due to engineering works at Howth Junction on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th November, there will be NO DART services North of Connolly Station to Howth/Malahide, although stations from Malahide to Connolly will be served by commuter services.

The regular 15 minute DART service is not in operation and has been replaced by bus and limited diesel train services operating approx every 45 minutes. Please plan your journey carefully with these restrictions in mind.
SAT & SUN Southside DART services from Connolly Station to Bray & Greystones servicing the Sandymount dart station are not affected by these restrictions.

Quite ironic indeed. However in this instance, the show took place in the Simmonscourt pavillion and the exhibition was in a marquee on the car park. The Main Hall was occupied with some awards ceremony or other (nothing to do with Top Gear) and would have been too far away in any case.

People were well warned that that there would be no car parking - it was on their tickets, on a flyer accompaning their tickets, and just to make sure there was also an email sent to everyone.

It will only be worse tommorow - Lenister are playing in the RDS Showgrounds which is directly opposite Simmonscourt...

a good reason for having no car parking might be to stop the carnage of 20000 would-be Stigs leaving the car aprk at once (sideways):D

The show itself is in the Simmonscourt pavilion, but outside of this there are some big marquees set up.
One has all the cars and stands and other related stuff, another one is the Anglo-Irish bank corporate hospitality suite (which I was in on Friday, with lots of free beer), and there is also another area set up for driving exibitions on an assault type course, and there is also quite a few toilets dotted around the ground.
Also with around 5000 people attending each show, cars trying to get in and out would be a disaster.
