By far and away my favourite type of photography is of musicians. However, I do prefer the more experimental end of things so thankfully not all my shots are of sweaty young men with guitars! Anyway, I was well pleased with the shots I took last weekend in Boston so here's some highlights (and the full collection is here for those interested). Any comments/criticisms/cats are most welcome.

I have to admit I'm a bit partial to concert photography myself.

I really like the second Matmos shot, the Lichens pic is great and the very last one, the silhouette of the violinist is very nice.

I reckon you'll be fine. The crowd were really mellow at the last Nightmare Before Christmas. And I've been through the mosh at a Melvins gig with my 400D and we survived fine and dandy.

I like the 2nd last one - i sometimes find experimental / electronic bands are difficult to capture - i think its the lack of emotion/kraftwerk look , - as against the alcoholic guitar waving long haired loon - anyway some nice stuff here John

Nice one, i might just take it along then, it will give me a reason for not over-indulging!

Look forward to lots of pics of Mike Patton folks :D

Thanks baz. I know what you mean, a guy standing at a console/laptop is about as inspiring as any clichéd singer-songwriter shot.

I freaked out for a sec when I saw these as I thought I'd missed a Matmos/Stars of the Lid concert in Dublin, but panic subsided when I noticed they were in Boston.

I like the long exposure shots of Stars of the Lid, but I suspect that's particularly subjective as I'm familiar with their music.

i saw matmos in Andrews Lane there a few months back. gotta say, i didn't really understand it musically. some interesting ideas, but generally it was just harsh noise. i took photos too, but don't appear to have any online. Just one of the support act, Si Schroeder

They're all nice but I like the one of the violin player in particular.

I have shots from the Andrews Lane Matmos gig here (and I've shots from the Stars of the Lid show in Whelans but they're not great, point and click + darkness = crap).

I was in Japan for that Matmos gig, but I didn't know Stars of the Lid played Whelan's a week ago! Now I'm pissed off like when I had to miss the M83 concert on the friday of last October bank holiday as I was going down the country.

It's hard to know when the handful of acts I'd actually go to see roll around given that I'm not a habitual concert-goer and as such don't really preuse the listings to find when the (relatively) unknown handful esoteric electronica acts I like are playing here, and even if I do, it's even more difficult to get someone to come with.

The Whelans gig was a year ago, the photos from last week were in Boston.
