I recently claimed for rent allowance for this year,i did this a few years ago and received a nice cheque off the revenue and tax credits which were applied straight away.
The revenue got back to me a week ago saying i would receive 400 euro tax credits for this year.
Will i see this in my next pay cheque or is it too late in the year for this to be applied?
Im guessing i may have to wait until next year and contact the Revenue and tell them i paid too much tax??

    Any help/info much appreciated.

If they got back to you a week ago, then they should notify you by post within this week or the next including a cheque, unless you have submitted your bank details, they would pay it into your bank account and also send you a receipt via post.
Sure give them a ring tomorrow and ask them so you will know for definite when to expect your payment.:)

oops no I read it wrong sorry.
If they sent you an updated tax credit certificate with an extra 400 Euro on it, then your employer would have received the same notification of change of tax credits.
I cannot see any reason why you should have to wait til next year if the tax certificates have already been issued.
Therefore you should see some difference in your next wage :D

I'll jump in here instead of starting a new thread on the issue..

I've been renting for over a year and a half and have yet to claim Rent Relief. Is it possible to claim it back for the full duration that I've been renting?

Will I get it in the form of tax credits or do they give you a lump sum?

    Thanks in advance.

    renting for 18 months

eg 2007 you rented from July to December. for this you will have to make a claim, just fill in the form and you will get a cheque back in the post.

for 2008 you rented for the full year, now considering the year is finished your best bet is to wait until janurary and claim for both years 07 and 08 together. again just fill in the form.

for 2009 the revenue will update your tax credits to include the rent allowance so you have no further need to claim at the end of the year.
