    Hi
I am hoping you could help me,
I once saw an example fo this guys work in the Sunday times magazine.

He takes setup photos of what look like movie stills.

For example one of his photos was of

A guy in the middle of the woods digging up briefcases , in the middle of the night using his car head lights to see what he is doing.

I think (but am not sure) that Ralph fines was the actor used in the photo.

Th photos i saw all had famous actors used as models in very intriguing imagery.

I know this is a long shot but could anyone help me.

    I tried google to death.
    Thanks
    max

i think that's the most pointless photo project i've seen in a while.

sounded to me like the photographer could be gregory crewdson, but the image mentioned doesn't ring a bell.

Gregory Crewdson is the answer, thanks a million.

    Thanks very much

Yep, Crewdson's the big man when it comes to things like this.

Jeff Wall does so in a less cinematic manner if you're interested in following this idea - His are moreso inspired by street photography than cinematics.

when I think about it, yeah it is pretty pointless. :D

but I remember at the time thinking they looked cool, it was all lush colours and great lighting. The ones I linked to in vanity fair were a bit.... well a bit crap really disappointing on the second visit.

Actually this is something I've really wanted to do for a while. Well, film noir shots to be more precise. Now I've got access to a studio I'm looking for lighting tutorials. Anyone know where I'd get my hands on one?

Strobist will have tutorials etc. Also someone posted a link to a great youtube video on lighting. It could have been Borderfox. Apologies if it was someone else. It's worth searching youtube though for videos on it.

In the same boat here. Big noir fan and currently trying to figure out the best way to do this.

Very much looking forward to seeing what you do.
