All State services to be available on one number

Run_to_da_hills

A SINGLE telephone number for all public services is planned by the Government similar to a system in New York.

New York's 311 service is the phone number for all the US government's information and non- emergency services.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen visited the headquarters of the service in the New York Mayor's office earlier this year on a visit to the city and said he was impressed by the set-up.

yes please - if it's properly done. it'll save the state money anyway & as it will be just one number for the entire country - the ivr codes will probably be published in various phonebooks, citizensinfo.ie etc.

I don't see the problem. Surely there's not that much difference between dialling entirely different numbers for different services and dialling one number and then one or two other numbers when you get through to select the service? Actually seems a lot easier tbh...

I think God kept Ireland and the UK apart from Europe for a reason though

If we can just replace that Queen in England with our Pope the 2nd coming could be put back by quite some years
