India might be a super cheap holiday destination with all this commotion in Bombay.

With all the terrorist activity going on in Bombay one might be able to pull a super cheap deal on a holiday in India. A week before 9/11 myself and the ex book a two week DIY trip to Egypt.

9/11 happened and we were advised by family and friends to cancel the trip. We didn't and had the holiday of a lifetime. Hotels and tour operators were cutting each others throats for business.

Due to the fall out there was heaps of cancellations, we had no trouble getting accommodation, and even bumped up to 1st class in some cases, booking excursions, no queues at museums and sights.

Americans are particularly paranoid when it comes to something like this and some would think that Bombay is the whole of India.

Was thinking of doing the same again in India. :)

Go by all means, Myself and the Hubby went to Iraq soon after the last US invasion in 2004, the place was a bit ragged but we had a blast

I wasn't been funny by the way saying blast, that was a bit inappropriate, we had a really good time, we got a lovely hotel on the outskirts of Baghdad and were shepherded by armed guards to nearly all the places we went, so there was no safety concerns, and the food was amazing

One place I'd like to go myself if it ever cools down. I have been to Palistine, before and found the people very genuine. One of my best flights was a Pan Am returning from the US to Heathrow on the former Lockerbi route. We had a ball, rows of empty seats, as much free drink as we could handle, they went bust shortly after. :(

From looking at your post history I call shenanigans.

Pretty heartless to be even thinking of your budget holidaying right now, but if you want to, off you go.
Also very insensitive for any Indians (or people with hearts) on this boards.

    hi there run-to-the-hills..
i wonder if you'd love going for a holiday if one of your family member was a victim of such violence.. if you really want a cheap holiday probably you might want to call the families who've lost their loved ones and they might still find in their heart to give you some money to fund your enjoyment...
your callous attitude towards human sufferring is truly unbelievable and shocking... God bless

On the other hand there are small hotels and local tour guides that are totally Dependant on the tourist trade that are suffering from this fall out that would be glad of ANY business. Savings would be made on flight and hotel cancellations that would normally be booked out at premium rates in the dry season.

People don't go to India for the enjoyment, they go there for the EXPERIENCE. If someone wants enjoyment they go on a package to Ibiza or Puertventura. When I travel to any of these places I buy in local supermarkerts, eat in resturaunts, use local public transport and would pay for a local guide at the rate.

One of the immediate follow up after the Thai Bombings and tsunami was to clean up the place and get confidence back in the tourist trade.

I was in Luxor Egypt only 4 years after the massacre at Deir El Bahri where 59 foreign tourists were killed, That incident has DESTROYED the tourist trade in this country even to this day. Thousands of livelyhoods have been totally desicrated, from travel guides, restaurants, souveneer manufacturers, boat cruises, stalls, hotels, etc.

India is a huge country and dose not center around Bombay.

What you are stating is totally ignorant and short sighted, IE Avoid the place least you might be taking advantage of them and let those in the business starve.

Remember there is no dole out there.

Nobody suggested that India/Bombay should be avoided.

It's your willingness to see a money saving oppurtunity from an event like this and what seems to be an indifference to the loss of numerous lives that is extremely offensive.

Ah god would you all leave off. This is the travel forum isn't it? He's not writing the place off because of what happened - he wants to go there.

And there is NOTHING wrong with booking an flight online from a cancellation at up to half the normal dry season rate. It can cost up to e1400 to fly to India between December and February.

The most expensive port of the trip is the flight unless you want to suffer the wet season.

and i guess you would know more about the local businesses in Mumbai than me !!
as some one mentioned earlier we should probably not continue this line of conversation and divert the goal of this forum. I just found it quite disheartening to find this person post the same comment about cheap trip to mumbai in two seperate forums.

I am the type of person that prefers to travel to these sort of places, I am not the package holiday type as i mentioned already, I tend to meet and chat to locals rather than stay in a cocoon holiday apartment.

I have traveled through Palestine for 4 weeks also the former Yougoslavia, and North Africa, I have never been in India although my brother who is also into "adventure" travel just came back last summer with his missus. He was the one that mentioned to me about flight and hotel cancellations.

I just checked the price of flights to India and they are not cheaper than they were before the Mumbai attack.
